Chapter 21 - Claire changes our custody routine

Claire did not use the incident to take Leo away from me.

She could have tried.

Instead we rewrote our parenting agreement voluntarily.

No informal caregiver substitutions longer than thirty minutes without notifying the other parent when reasonably possible.

Approved caregivers listed.

Emergency exceptions allowed.

No family employee automatically treated as childcare because they happened to be present.

If Leo stayed at the mansion during my workday, a designated childcare professional—not Mansion Service Management—had responsibility.

Separate reporting lines.

Claire also asked for one clause I initially hated.

“If a caregiver has authority to discipline Leo, both parents need to know what that means.”

I said:

“Are we writing a constitution for a toddler?”

“Yes.”

She did not smile.

We wrote:

No withholding meals.

No physical punishment.

No forced labor as repayment.

Age-appropriate time-outs limited.

No restricting contact with either parent as discipline.

Obvious things.
