Chapter 14 - SALVATORE’S LAST SEALED FILE

The Zurich access attempt eventually led nowhere dramatic.
Spoofed connection.
A cybersecurity contractor Veronica had once hired.
No active theft.
But the targeted file—
SALVATORE AMENDMENTS — SEALED—
contained something important.
Grace opened it after trust litigation concluded.
An unsigned final draft from Salvatore.
Written shortly before his death.
He had apparently begun reconsidering the male-line rule.
Dominic stared.
“Seriously?”
Grace nodded.
The draft stated:
I believed sons preserved families because that is what I was taught.
I have been watching my granddaughter—
Dominic stopped.
“Lila wasn’t born.”
Grace frowned.
Not Lila.
Another granddaughter.
Gabriel and Dominic had a sister?
No.
Then the name appeared.
MARIA BELLINI.
Dominic stared.
His father referenced:
my granddaughter Maria.
No one knew her.
Teresa went pale when shown.
“I know.”
Of course.
Dominic sighed.
“Another child?”
Teresa shook her head.
“Not Gabriel’s.”
“Whose?”
“Our brother Antonio.”
Dominic barely remembered Antonio.
Half-brother.
Died young.
His daughter had apparently been adopted outside the family after her mother remarried.
Salvatore secretly met her.
Maria’s existence had begun changing his views.
Another family branch.
Another open thread.
She would now be in her thirties.
Dominic rubbed his face.
“How many relatives did everyone hide?”
Teresa answered:
“We were very unhealthy.”
Accurate.
The draft amendment was never signed.
Legally irrelevant to current structure after reforms.
Emotionally important.
Salvatore had started seeing his own mistake.
Too late.
But not never.
Dominic decided not to hunt Maria immediately.
Grace stared.
“You’re not curious?”
“Of course.”
“Then?”
“If she built a life away from Bellinis, she may deserve to keep it.”
Good.
They located only enough to confirm she appeared alive and safe.
No contact.
Secondary open thread.
Maybe someday.
Maybe not.
Dominic showed Lila the general truth:
Your great-grandfather eventually questioned the rule too.
She shrugged.
“He should have fixed it.”
“Yes.”
Children had little patience for posthumous growth.
Probably healthy.
Ethan’s trust matured into a stable educational and future fund.
No governance burden.
At twenty-five he could choose involvement in legitimate Bellini companies, but nothing automatic.
Lila would have the same choice.
Dominic’s businesses continued shifting toward fully legitimate holdings.
He had begun dismantling the criminal parts years earlier.
Veronica’s betrayal accelerated it.
He no longer wanted any structure where a child’s surname made them useful to dangerous adults.
Michael asked:
“What happens to the organization?”
Dominic looked at him.
“It becomes companies.”
“That simple?”
“No.”
“Possible?”
“Yes.”
No successor boss.
No bloodline.
May you like
No child groomed to inherit fear.
That became Dominic’s most important reform.
