Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Heir

By six o'clock the following morning, a brilliant, sunlit gold bathed the fifty private acres of the Rosselli estate as the storm cleared over the city.
Inside the grand private study on the second floor, the morning light filtered through the tall bay windows, illuminating the dark mahogany bookshelves, the plush leather armchairs, and the polished desk.
Dante Rosselli sat in his large executive chair behind the desk. He wore a fresh burgundy suit, his dark hair combed back neatly, his dark eyes clear, steady, and filled with quiet, undeniable pride.
Standing beside his chair, dressed in an exquisite dark emerald silk dress provided by the estate stylist, was Alina Valdez. Her fair rosy skin was radiant, her dark-brown hair falling softly over her shoulders, her small silver locket glinting against her collarbone, her presence commanding, beautiful, and regal.
And sitting right in the center of Dante's massive oak desk, playing with a set of wooden building blocks, was nine-month-old Leo. He wore his tiny white shirt and dark vest, babbling happily as he stacked two blocks together.
Dante reached into his desk drawer, pulling out a thick, leather-bound document stamped with the official seal of the Supreme Court of Illinois. He set it flat on the desk before Alina.
"This is the official bloodline trust, Alina," Dante announced softly, his deep voice carrying profound warmth. "Fifty percent of the Rosselli global shipping foundation, the estate, and our international assets are now legally registered under your name and Leo's trust."
Alina looked down at the gold-embossed document, tears of deep, overwhelming gratitude brimming in her dark eyes. She looked at the man who had protected her mother, saved her life, and given her a true family.
"Thank you, Dante," Alina whispered softly, reaching out her hand to cover his broad, tattooed palm.
Dante looked up at her, a rare, genuine smile touching his rugged face. "This house was built on protection, Alina. It's time it felt like home."
Baby Leo set his wooden block down on the desk, looking up at Alina with his bright gray eyes, and reached out both of his small hands toward her.
Alina scooped the baby boy up into her arms, kissing his soft cheek as Leo giggled happily.
Suddenly, the private satellite phone sitting on Dante's desk chimed with a sharp, encrypted ringtone from an untraceable server in Zurich.
Dante picked up the device, pressing the receiver to his ear.
A smooth, unfamiliar voice with a heavy European accent spoke through the speaker:
"Don Rosselli... congratulations on purging Vance and securing Chicago. But the international council in Zurich has just received notification that Clara's daughter has been located in your estate... and the European directors are demanding an immediate summit regarding the Atlantic shipping routes."
Dante’s dark eyes narrowed into razor-sharp focus. He did not flinch. He slowly looked over at Alina and little Leo, his broad posture returning to that of an invincible warlord ready to guard his family into eternity.

"Tell Zurich," Dante said quietly, his voice sharp as steel, "that if they want to speak to the Rosselli family... they can come to Chicago."
He disconnected the call, set the phone down, and wrapped his broad arm around Alina's waist as the golden morning sun bathed the grand study in warmth, safety, and triumphant light.
