Chapter 21 - Lysandra Goes Back

Lysandra returned to Ambrose after six months.
People judged her.
I tried not to.
Her marriage was hers.
She set conditions.
Separate bedrooms initially.
Therapy.
No minimizing.
No contact with Callum outside approved channels.
No keys hidden.
No private “training” of any grandchild.
Ambrose agreed.
Did that guarantee transformation?
No.
Behavior over time mattered.
Lysandra also apologized to Callum.
Not for Ambrose.
For herself.
“I found keys with your name.”
Callum stared.
“I did not know exactly what they were for.”
“Did you know cage?”
“I was afraid that might be it.”
“Why not tell Mom?”
Lysandra cried.
“Because I wanted to be sure before I accused Grandpa.”
Callum said:
“You could ask me.”
There.
Everyone went silent.
“Yes.”
She had searched drawers before asking the child whose name was on keys.
That was the lesson.
Adults trust objects when children feel too complicated.
She said:
“I should have asked you.”
Callum nodded.
No forgiveness ritual.
Then:
“Can I have your cookies?”
Lysandra laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
He took two.
May you like
Life.
