Gabriel walked down into the subterranean garage beneath the guest house. He opened the heavy steel door of the service tunnel.

Claire stood near the waiting black SUV, holding Mia wrapped tightly in a thick blanket. When she saw Gabriel walk out of the dark tunnel, alive and uninjured, she let out a choked sob and ran toward him.

Gabriel caught her in his arms, holding her close against his broad chest as she wept against his jacket.

"It's over, Claire," Gabriel whispered softly, resting his chin against her dark hair. "It's over."

Mia reached out from between them, clutching Gabriel's collar with her small hand. "Mr. Gabriel, did you beat the bad guys?"

Gabriel looked down at his three-year-old niece, his eyes filled with profound warmth. "Yes, sweetheart. The bad guys are gone."

Two hours later, inside the central council room beneath the Valenti estate, twelve senior syndicate lieutenants and capos sat around a long oak table.

Gabriel sat at the head of the table in his dark navy suit. Standing at his right hand were Claire and Mia. Bound in heavy iron restraints in the center of the room sat Thomas Reed, Bernadette Hayes, and Victor Vance.

Gabriel set the blue leather notebook, the silver locket, and the bank key 704 on the center of the wood.

"Members of the Valenti Council," Gabriel announced, his deep voice echoing through the silent chamber. "Tonight, the conspiracy that has plagued our family for twenty-five years has been exposed."

He pointed at Thomas Reed. "Thomas betrayed my father and murdered my brother Marcus to line his own pockets."

He pointed at Victor Vance. "Vance financed the attack and attempted to slaughter my family on my fifty-first birthday."

Murmurs of dark fury rippled across the twelve lieutenants around the table.

"Under the absolute authority of the Valenti charter," Gabriel declared, his eyes cold as steel, "Thomas Reed and Victor Vance are stripped of all assets, titles, and protection. They will be turned over to federal authorities along with the Zurich ledgers to face life imprisonment."

Thomas slumped forward in his chair, his head bowed in defeat. Vance stared at the floor, ruined and broken.

Gabriel turned his eyes toward Claire and Mia.

"And effective immediately," Gabriel stated, his voice ringing with absolute authority, "Mia Morgan is officially recognized as the sole blood heir to the Valenti family dynasty. Claire Morgan is granted full protection, executive authority, and master status within this household."
