Chapter 2 - The Code in the Suitcase

Ruby didn't hesitate. She pulled her pink suitcase right up to the head of the table, stopping beside Damon’s leather chair. She looked up into the formidable boss's face with large, expressive eyes and a dead-serious expression.
"We have to leave," Ruby said, her small voice clear and unyielding. "Right now."
Damon’s intense dark eyes narrowed slightly. He slowly stood up to his full, towering height, his broad frame casting a shadow over the table.
Before anyone could speak, Selena rushed through the open doors, her face pale as ash, her knees trembling beneath her beige skirt. "Ruby! Sweetheart, no—"
Damon raised a broad hand, stopping Selena mid-sentence. He looked down at Selena’s hands, noticing how violently they were shaking against her white apron. In an instant, the observant boss realized the child was not playing a game.
Damon made a subtle gesture toward Marcus.
Without a word, Marcus Vale stepped to the heavy double doors, closing them firmly and engaging the electronic deadbolts. "Gentlemen," Marcus announced to the directors at the table in a calm, lethal voice. "Stay in your seats."
Selena stepped up to Damon, holding out her phone with a trembling arm. Displayed on the screen was the recent unknown incoming call, logged just three minutes prior.
Damon took the phone. As he listened to Selena’s hurried, terrified whisper explaining the cold caller's threat, his handsome face transformed into a mask of pure, unyielding stone.
"Marcus," Damon commanded, his low voice cutting through the quiet room. "Bring up the estate activity logs."
Marcus pulled an encrypted digital tablet from his jacket, tapping through the live security feeds. Within seconds, his brow furrowed beneath his short dark hair.
"Boss," Marcus said, leaning in close to Damon. "Someone used Selena’s employee credentials twenty minutes ago to grant master override access to the lower garage, the east gate, and our vehicle inventory logs."
Selena stared at the screen in utter disbelief, covering her mouth with her hand. "I... I was in the pantry the whole time! I haven't touched my access card since seven this morning!"
Damon slowly turned his head, his dark eyes sweeping over the powerful men seated around his boardroom table. Someone in this room had stolen her credentials to orchestrate a breach.
Down on the floor, little Ruby unzipped the side pocket of her small pink suitcase, looking for her gray stuffed toy to comfort herself.
As she pulled at the fabric, a shiny black electronic executive access card tumbled out of the side pocket, sliding across the polished floorboards until it bumped against Damon’s shoe.
Damon bent down and picked it up. Engraved on the back of the card was a high-level master clearance symbol that should never have been anywhere near a three-year-old child.
Ruby reached into her pocket, then pointed her small finger directly across the table at Caleb Ross.
"That man put it in my suitcase," Ruby said innocently.

Caleb Ross’s face went completely pale, his confident posture shattering in a single second.
Damon slowly raised his eyes, locking his gaze onto his trusted senior associate.
