Chapter 6 - Shadows over the Estate

The autumn wind rustled through the maple leaves as an uncomfortable silence settled over the garden.

Sophia swallowed hard, her dark brown eyes meeting Lorenzo’s gaze with a mixture of fear and profound determination. "We need to speak inside, Mr. Rossi. Away from the staff."

Ten minutes later, Isabella was resting comfortably in the sunroom, her legs wrapped in warm towels while Emma sat beside her, drawing pictures with colored pencils. For the first time in four years, Isabella was talking softly, her voice returning like a long-lost melody.

Inside Lorenzo’s private study, the heavy oak doors were locked. Marcus, his head of security, stood outside the frame, ensuring total privacy.

Lorenzo stood behind his mahogany desk, his hands resting flat on the wood as he glared at Sophia standing across from him.

"Explain the charm, Sophia," Lorenzo commanded, his tone unyielding. "Julianna’s charm was buried with her. Or so I was led to believe."

Sophia pulled a small, worn leather-bound notebook from the pocket of her housekeeping dress and laid it gently on the desk.

"Julianna didn't die in a random car accident, Lorenzo," Sophia said softly, her voice steady despite her trembling hands. "She was forced off the road because she found out who was poisoning your household."
