Chapter 7

Celeste’s obstetrician moved her delivery plan to a different hospital.
Not because the original hospital had done anything wrong.
Because too many Ravello relatives knew the first location.
The new hospital created a confidential chart.
No public room number.
No visitor information.
Only Damian and two pre-cleared support people could receive updates.
Marina was excluded.
Helena was excluded.
The hospital legal department reviewed the forged caregiver papers and placed a warning in Celeste’s chart that no external guardianship or discharge authorization should be honored without direct verification and legal review.
Damian requested all of it.
Then he made another request that embarrassed him.
“Do the same thing to me.”
Hospital counsel looked confused.
“If anyone presents anything supposedly signed by me, verify it directly.”
“You’ll be here.”
“Maybe.”
“You’re the father.”
“That doesn’t make my paperwork sacred.”
Celeste looked at him.
He continued.
“If this family has spent years teaching people that our signatures settle questions, stop teaching them that.”
That became one of the few things she needed to hear.
Meanwhile, the family office audit found Helena had used legitimate company resources for the plan.
Ravello Air Services—an FAA-regulated charter-management company partially owned by family investors—had billed preliminary itinerary work to a corporate travel account.
Destination:
Milan.
Travel category:
Executive family continuity.
No flight occurred.
Still, corporate resources were being used for a personal child-removal plan.
The company’s compliance director had questioned the booking.
Helena’s assistant answered:
Approved by family principal.
Which principal?
No name.
Then Marina approved the expense.
That placed her more deeply inside the logistics.
She told investigators she believed the trip was an emergency retreat if Damian was arrested.
“Did Celeste agree to retreat?”
“No.”
“Did Damian?”
“Mom said he would.”
“Did you ask him?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Marina looked furious with herself.
“Because I knew what he would say.”
That was the most honest answer she had given.
Then Celeste remembered another conversation.
Marina had come to her bedroom at thirty-three weeks and said:
“If anything happens around delivery, don’t fight every person trying to help.”
Celeste asked:
“What does that mean?”
“You treat every Ravello decision like an attempt to control you.”
“Sometimes they are.”
Marina replied:
“Sometimes control is how families survive.”
Celeste looked at her.
“And sometimes it’s what people call kidnapping when the family isn’t rich.”
Marina walked out.
At the time, it sounded like another bitter argument.
Now prosecutors preserved the household hallway recording that captured it.
Nobody planned that recording as evidence.
The Ravello security system simply saved audio near the nursery wing.

Marina had been warned in plain English.
And still continued arranging the Milan contingency.
