Chapter 14

The final legal resolutions arrived nearly two years after the dinner.

Anthony resolved civil and financial claims through repayment, penalties, and restrictions on future related-party contracting.

The evidence did not prove every inflated invoice was criminal fraud.

The cases were narrower.

Constance faced the strongest consequences.

Fiduciary misconduct.

False or misleading trust representations.

Conspiracy-related conduct tied to the attempted governance manipulation.

And child-endangerment-related liability for intentionally obstructing necessary medical care while using the situation to provoke Fabio.

Her lawyers fought the wording aggressively.

The eventual resolution included a custodial sentence, substantial restitution, supervised release, and permanent disqualification from serving as trustee or fiduciary for DeSantis family entities.

Not life.

Not destitution.

Real consequences.

She retained lawful personal assets after satisfying judgments and debt.

Her social power vanished faster than her money.

At the family club, people stopped waiting for her to choose the table.

At board meetings, nobody reserved her old chair.

At the estate, the staff no longer called to ask what Mrs. DeSantis wanted before carrying out instructions from a parent.

Fabio completed every condition of his misdemeanor case.

Then continued counseling voluntarily.

Juliet once asked why.

“The court part is over.”

Fabio adjusted his cuff.

“My mother built an entire legal strategy around the idea that she could make me stop thinking.”

Juliet waited.

“I don’t like that she understood me that well.”

“So you’re trying to become impossible to provoke?”

“No.”

Fabio looked toward Mabel coloring at the kitchen table.

“I’m trying to become predictable in the right way.”

Mabel sneezed.

Fabio immediately looked up.

Juliet laughed.

“It was one sneeze.”

“I know.”

“You’re doing the thermometer face.”

“I don’t have a thermometer face.”

“You absolutely do.”

Mabel held out her hand.

“Daddy, I’m alive.”

Fabio stared.

Juliet covered her mouth to keep from laughing.

He sighed.

“Apparently everyone in this house has jokes now.”

That was another reform he had not planned.
