Chapter 7 - the blood court

By 2:00 PM, the grand council chamber on the second floor of the Ravello mansion was filled with thirty elderly bosses and branch leaders from across the Midwest.

At the head of the massive mahogany table sat Dominic, his posture regal, dark, and unshakeable. Sitting directly to his right was Elise, dressed in a sophisticated dark navy silk gown, her brown hair pinned back elegantly, wearing a gold family crest ring that Dominic had gifted her an hour ago.

Kneeling on the cold marble floor in the center of the room, bound in iron handcuffs and wearing a gray detention jumpsuit, was Marcella. Her manicured hands were bare, her expensive jewelry stripped, her arrogance completely broken.

Don Carmine, an eighty-two-year-old council elder with white hair and sharp blue eyes, tapped his wooden gavel against the table.

"The evidence presented by the family lawyer and federal authorities is conclusive," Don Carmine declared, his raspy voice echoing in the silent hall. "Marcella Ravello engaged in high treason, child concealment, murder of family advisors, and grand theft of the Ravello trust."

Carmine looked down at Marcella with absolute disdain. "Under article one of the 1904 charter, Marcella Ravello is stripped of her name, her property, and her freedom. She will spend the remainder of her life in federal custody."

Marcella kept her head lowered, tears dripping silently onto the marble floor, unable to utter a single word of defense.

Don Carmine then turned his gaze toward Elise, offering a deep, respectful nod. "And to you, Lady Elise Ravello... daughter of Julian Ravello... this council recognizes your blood. You are hereby declared the legitimate sole heiress to seventy percent of the Ravello estate."

The gathered bosses stood up, raising their glasses in silent, unanimous respect for the young woman who had survived twenty-nine years in the shadows to take her rightful place.

Elise stood up slowly, looking across the room with calm, quiet authority. "Thank you, Don Carmine. But I do not wish to run a criminal empire. I ask only that the Ravello trust be converted into a clean, transparent foundation to fund education and shelter for orphaned children across this state."

The room fell dead silent. Never in the hundred-year history of the syndicate had an heir chosen to cleanse the family legacy so completely.

Dominic looked up at his niece, a rare, genuine spark of pride shining in his dark eyes.

"The request is granted," Carmine declared, striking his gavel once more. "The foundation is established."
