Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Heir

Veronica realized her entire multi-billion-dollar scheme had crumbled into dust. In a fit of wild, insane rage, she raised her pistol toward Sofia.

CRACK!

Before Veronica could pull the trigger, a single precise shot echoed through the lakehouse.

Frank had stepped through the side window, firing a single round that struck Veronica's wrist, sending her weapon spinning across the floor.

The mercenaries dropped their rifles instantly, surrendering to Frank and the Carbone bodyguards who swarmed the room.

Veronica collapsed onto her knees on the wooden floor, weeping hysterically as Frank slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists, dragging her out of the house alongside Julian and the corrupt Elders.

Silence returned to the lakehouse, save for the crackle of the fireplace.

The front door opened softly, and Alina walked inside, guiding seven-year-old Maisie by her hand.

The little girl looked around the room, her wide brown eyes locking onto Sofia standing near the fire.

Sofia dropped to her knees on the floor, holding out her arms, tears streaming down her fair rosy cheeks. "Maisie..."

Maisie looked at Dominic, who offered her a warm, encouraging nod. The little girl ran forward, throwing her small arms around Sofia's neck. Sofia pulled her daughter flush against her chest, sobbing with pure, unadulterated joy.

"I've got you, my sweet girl," Sofia wept softly. "I've got you."

Dominic walked over, dropping to one knee beside them, and wrapped his broad, powerful arms around both Sofia and Maisie, pulling them tight against his broad chest in a powerful, eternal embrace.

Three weeks later, the Carbone estate in New York was bathed in brilliant golden morning sunlight.

The traitors had been permanently purged, the Chicago terminals fully absorbed into the Carbone empire, and the two dynasties unified forever.

In the grand sunlit ballroom, a formal assembly of five hundred syndicate leaders, politicians, and family members stood in deep, respectful silence.

Dominic stood at the head of the hall wearing a fresh black tuxedo, gold cufflinks gleamed at his wrists. Standing beside him was Sofia Vance, wearing an exquisite floor-length dark emerald gown, her fair rosy skin radiant, her brown hair styled with regal grace.

And standing between them, wearing a brand-new pale-pink dress with a satin ribbon in her hair, was seven-year-old Maisie Carbone.

Dominic reached into his vest pocket, pulling out a small gold signet ring bearing the unified crest of the Carbone and Vance families. He gently slipped it onto Maisie's small finger.

"Today," Dominic announced, his deep voice echoing clearly across the grand hall, "I present the undisputed sovereign heir of the Carbone empire—my daughter, Maisie Carbone."

The five hundred syndicate leaders bowed their heads in unanimous, absolute deference to the young heiress.

Maisie looked up at Dominic and Sofia, her rosy cheeks glowing with radiant happiness, and squeezed both their hands tightly.

Suddenly, Frank stepped up to Dominic's side, holding a high-tech satellite phone that was chiming with a sharp, encrypted ringtone from London.

Dominic took the phone, putting it to his ear.

A smooth, heavily accented European voice spoke through the speaker:

"Don Carbone... congratulations on unifying Chicago and New York. But the international council in London has just received news that Catherine's private vault in Geneva has been unlocked... and the European board is demanding an immediate summit regarding the global shipping routes."

Dominic’s dark blue-gray eyes narrowed into razor-sharp focus. He didn't flinch. He didn't show fear. He slowly looked at Sofia and Maisie, his posture returning to that of an invincible, unyielding warlord guarding his family.

"Tell London," Dominic said quietly, his voice sharp as steel, "that if they want to speak to the Carbone family... they can come to New York."

He disconnected the call, set the phone down, and wrapped his broad arm around Sofia's waist as the golden morning sun illuminated the grand ballroom in warmth, safety, and light.
