Chapter 6 - The Vault in Chicago

"Julian," Dominic growled, his hand clamping around the man's throat like an iron clamp, pinning him against the marble wall. "You were supposed to be buried in the Vance family plot."
Julian choked, gasping for air, a bitter, bloody smile touching his lips. "You... you thought you wiped out our family, Dominic... But Veronica and I... played you for seven years..."
"Why target Maisie tonight?" Dominic demanded, his voice shaking the quiet foyer.
"Because... because the Chicago trust... unlocks on her seventh birthday!" Julian rasped out. "If Maisie is proven to be Sofia's biological child... forty percent of your shipping terminals automatically transfer to the Vance estate! Veronica slapped her to draw you out... so we could steal the journal from Catherine's chapel!"
Dominic’s jaw set like iron. The entire birthday party attack hadn't been an emotional outburst by Veronica—it was a calculated corporate heist orchestrated by the Vance family to steal the true bloodline deeds!
Dominic delivered a swift strike to Julian's jaw, rendering him unconscious, and tossed him onto the marble floor.
Frank stepped out of the subterranean stairwell, holding his radio. "Boss, the perimeter is secure. Our secondary teams cleared the driveway."
"Get the private jet ready, Frank," Dominic commanded flatly, wiping a smear of soot from his cufflink. "We fly to Chicago in one hour."
"What about Veronica and Julian, Boss?" Frank asked.
"Lock them in the lower cells beneath the wine cellar," Dominic said coldly. "They will answer to the Syndicate Board when we return."
An hour later, Dominic's private Gulfstream jet cut through the stormy night sky toward Chicago.
Inside the luxurious leather cabin, Maisie lay fast asleep on a plush sofa, wrapped in her blanket. Dominic sat across from her, reviewing the pages of Sofia’s journal while holding the small silver key Maisie had found.
Alina Hart—Maisie's trusted private nanny who had served in the estate for three years—sat beside the little girl, gently stroking her dark hair.

"Mr. Carbone," Alina asked softly, her fair, rosy cheeks pale with worry. "Is it true? Is Sofia Vance really alive in upstate New York?"
Dominic looked out the oval window at the sea of storm clouds below. "Sofia was hidden by my late wife to protect her from Julian and Veronica. Tonight, we open the Chicago vault and finish this war forever."
