Chapter 13 - the bloodline vow

Lorenzo stood motionless for what felt like an eternity.
The silence between them was thick with revelation, grief, and an overwhelming sense of destiny.
Slowly, Lorenzo closed the distance between them. He stopped inches away from Amelia, his tall frame blocking the morning sun. His large, scarred hand gently rose to her cheek, his thumb catching a falling tear with surprising tenderness.
"You are Clara’s twin," Lorenzo murmured, his voice rich and deep. "Her blood runs in Leo’s veins. And in yours."
"I should have told you immediately," Amelia whispered, leaning into his touch despite herself. "I was terrified you would think I was an enemy."
"You took a blow to the head for my son," Lorenzo said fiercely. "You saved him when my own men were poisoning him. You will never have to apologize to anyone in this house ever again."
He dropped his hand, turning toward the door. "Come with me."
Lorenzo led Amelia down the grand staircase into the formal study. The room had been cleaned, the broken glass swept away. A new head of security, an older, loyal lieutenant named Dominic, stood guard at the door.
On the desk lay a thick stack of legal documents and the contents of Marco Bellini’s personal wall safe.
"Marco confessed to the logistics sabotage," Lorenzo said, picking up a leather-bound ledger. "He was skimming three million a year from our shipping docks. But when we cracked his private safe this morning, we found something that doesn't make sense."
Lorenzo opened the ledger to a marked page. "Look at the payment receipts for the untraceable phenobarbital."
Amelia leaned over the desk. The dates went back four months.
"Wait," Amelia said, pointing at the earliest date. "Clara died three months ago. These purchases began four weeks *before* Clara’s accident."
Lorenzo’s expression turned pitch black. "Clara wasn't murdered to cover up Marco’s skimming. Marco was hired to eliminate Clara *and* Leo together before Leo was even born."
"By who?" Amelia asked, a cold dread seizing her chest.
"The money didn't come from Chicago," Lorenzo said, pulling out a bank transfer slip. "The escrow account was registered in Boston. Under a family trust."
Lorenzo slammed his palm onto the desk, his voice shaking with venomous revelation.

"The funds were released by my own stepmother, Victoria Rossi."
