Chapter 5 - the twin's shadow

Inside the medical suite of the Bellucci estate, Sarah rested on a leather sofa, sipping warm tea while a private doctor checked her vitals.
In the adjacent private office, Dominic stood under the warm glow of a brass desk lamp, reading the official hospital documents pulled from the red-wax envelope.
Frank stood beside the desk, his face pale as he reviewed the attached medical records on his tablet screen.
"It's authentic, Boss," Frank confirmed, his voice low. "The hospital log shows two live births registered at two-fourteen and two-sixteen in the morning on August fourteenth. Boy twin and girl twin."
Dominic’s thick fingers traced the handwritten text on the second record sheet. "Where is the girl, Frank?"
"The second record was altered by Dr. Harrison twenty minutes after the delivery," Frank explained, pointing to a crossed-out line on the ledger. "The girl was listed as stillborn and quietly removed from the maternity ward by an unregistered private transport."
Dominic’s dark eyes burned with dangerous fire. "A transport paid for by Vanessa Crowe."
"Exactly," Frank said. "Vanessa paid Dr. Harrison two hundred thousand dollars to declare the baby girl dead and hand her over to a private adoption agency in Connecticut."
Dominic slammed his broad fist down onto the mahogany desk, the heavy impact vibrating through the room like a gunshot.
"She took my daughter," Dominic growled, his voice a lethal, terrifying rumble. "Eight years ago, while I was buried in grief over Sophia, that viper stole my daughter and hid her in plain sight."
Just then, the security phone on the desk rang. Frank answered it immediately, listened for three seconds, and handed the receiver to Dominic.
"It's Vanessa," Frank whispered.
Dominic took the phone, pressing it to his ear. "Speak."
"Hello, Dominic," Vanessa’s arrogant, smooth voice echoed over the line. "I see Nurse Elena's little girl managed to deliver her package. You always were so good at attracting loyal servants."
"Where is my daughter, Vanessa?" Dominic demanded, his voice chillingly calm.
Vanessa let out a low, amused laugh. "She's very close, Dominic. In fact, she's living in a very expensive boarding school three miles from your estate. But if you want her address... you're going to hand over full voting control of the Bellucci shipping docks by midnight."
May you like
"And if I refuse?" Dominic asked.
"Then Blake’s father takes the girl out of the country tomorrow morning," Vanessa threatened smoothly. "And you will never see her face again."
