Chapter 6 - The Whispers of Betrayal

Two days passed inside the estate. Emma was given a massive, sunlit suite adjoining the main nursery, complete with private medical staff, high-end organic supplies, and 24-hour care for Baby Lily.
Under the peaceful environment, Lily thrived, her small cheeks taking on a healthy, rosy glow. Emma began to regain her strength, though the mystery surrounding her late mother kept her awake at night.
Downstairs in the private holding facility built beneath the west wing, Marco presented Luca with the initial interrogation reports on Derek Morrison and Brittany Hale.
"Morrison is clean in terms of syndicate ties, Boss," Marco reported, setting a thin manila folder on Luca's desk. "He’s just an arrogant, self-centered coward who took Brittany's advice to dump Emma so he wouldn't have to pay child support."
"And Brittany?" Luca asked, his dark eyes fixed on the window.
"She’s a different story," Marco replied grimly. "Her maiden name isn't Hale. It’s Vance. Her father was Julian Vance—the former chief accountant for the Valenti crime family before their organization collapsed twenty years ago."

Luca turned around slowly. "The Valentis... the ones who tried to seize our shipping docks in 1996."
"Exactly," Marco confirmed. "Brittany didn't target Derek Morrison by accident. She targeted him because he was dating Emma Bennett. She knew who Emma was before Emma even knew herself."
