Chapter 9 - The Interrogation in the Vault
Within twenty minutes, the perimeter threat was completely neutralized. Marco’s men secured six surviving mercenaries, dragging them down to the lower vaults alongside Brittany Hale.
An hour later, Luca walked down the stone stairs into the interrogation room. Emma insisted on accompanying him, holding Lily safely in her arms under Marco’s watchful eye.
Brittany sat tied to a steel chair, her makeup smeared, her expensive pantsuit torn from her attempt to escape.
"It's over, Brittany," Luca said, throwing a heavy leather binder onto the table in front of her. "We decrypted your private server. We know about the twenty-million-dollar Valenti trust fund that legally activates only if Eleanor Moretti's bloodline is eradicated."
Brittany looked up, her eyes wide with frantic desperation. "It wasn't my idea! The Valenti council paid me! They told me if I got close to Derek, I could manipulate him into abandoning Emma so she would be isolated and easy to eliminate!"
Emma stepped forward, looking down at the woman who had tried to destroy her life. "You used Derek... you made him abandon his own child... just for money?"

"Derek was an idiot!" Brittany screamed, crying hysterically. "He believed everything I told him! He thought I loved him!"
Luca raised his hand, silencing her cries instantly. "Marco. Hand Brittany and her mercenaries over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation alongside the encrypted server. They will spend the rest of their natural lives in a maximum-security prison."
