Chapter 7 - The Bloodline Ledger

That evening, Luca knocked gently on the door frame of the nursery.
Emma was sitting in a plush rocking chair, holding Lily as the infant drifted off to sleep. She looked up and smiled—a genuine, warm smile that made Luca’s guarded heart skip a beat.
"May I?" Luca asked softly.
"Of course," Emma replied.
Luca walked over and sat down on the leather ottoman beside her chair. He pulled the silver pendant from his pocket, holding it up so the soft nightlight caught the intricate dragon engraving.
"My father had a younger sister named Eleanor," Luca said quietly, his voice full of nostalgic weight. "In 1994, during the height of the New York syndicate wars, Eleanor fell in love with a civilian art teacher. My grandfather forbade the match, so Eleanor disappeared into the night. My family spent ten years searching for her, but she had erased her identity completely."
Emma looked at the pendant, tears welling in her blue eyes. "My mother's name was Eleanor. She lived a very quiet life as a high school librarian in Ohio before we moved to New York."

Luca reached out, his large, calloused thumb gently wiping a stray tear from Emma’s cheek. "She was my aunt, Emma. Which means you are my cousin... and this little girl is a true-blooded Moretti heiress."
Emma gasped softly, covering her mouth as the monumental truth settled over her heart.
