Chapter 1 - The Boy on the Garage Floor

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The first thing Carmine Bellucci noticed was the water.
Dirty gray soap spread across the polished garage floor beneath Helena’s silver Bentley.
Then he saw the child kneeling in it.
Leo.
Three years old.
His little hands were red from clutching a filthy rag.
His oversized work shirt hung almost to his knees.
His jeans were soaked.
Carmine stopped breathing.
Helena kicked the overturned bucket aside.
“Start again.”
Leo flinched.
“You’ll go hungry if it isn’t clean.”
Then he saw his father.
“Dad…”
Carmine crossed the garage.
Fast.
Helena stepped between them.
“Carmine, he needs to learn—”
He moved her aside and lifted Leo straight into his arms.
The boy immediately buried his face against Carmine’s shoulder.
Carmine felt him trembling.
“What happened?”
Helena pointed toward a scratch along the Bentley’s rear door.
“That boy did it.”
Leo shook his head against Carmine’s chest.
“No.”
Helena’s expression sharpened.
“Don’t lie.”
Carmine looked at her.
The garage became very quiet.
“Don’t speak to my son again.”
Helena laughed.
“He damaged an eighty-thousand-dollar door.”
“He’s three.”
“Then you should supervise him.”
Carmine’s eyes became frighteningly calm.
Helena continued.
“Debts have to be worked off.”
Carmine slowly reached for the Bentley key in her hand.
Helena hesitated.
He took it.
Then dropped it into the dirty bucket.
She stared.
“What are you doing?”
“If a car matters more to you than a child, you don’t deserve the car.”
Her face changed.
“You can’t take my Bentley.”
“Watch me.”
Then Helena glanced toward the security cameras.
Just once.
But Carmine saw it.
So did the security supervisor standing twenty feet away.
The man hurried toward them.
“Mr. Bellucci.”
Carmine turned.
The supervisor looked nervous.
“There’s something you need to see.”
Helena immediately stepped forward.
“No.”
Carmine stared at her.
The supervisor pointed toward the garage office.
Carmine carried Leo inside.
Helena followed.
The footage loaded.
10:14 a.m.
A maintenance cart rolled loose.
It struck the Bentley.
The scratch appeared instantly.
10:37 a.m.
Leo wandered into the garage holding a toy truck.
He never touched the car.
Carmine slowly looked at Helena.
The supervisor swallowed.
“She already knew the cart caused it.”
Helena said nothing.
Carmine looked back at his son.
Leo whispered—
“She told me to say I did it.”

👉 Carmine had just proved Leo was innocent—but now he needed to know why Helena had forced a three-year-old child to confess to something she knew he never did.
