Chapter 9 - The Cart Was Never an Accident

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The maintenance cart had no mechanical failure.

That was the first finding.

Its brake worked.

Its wheels worked.

Nothing had broken.

Someone released it.

Security footage from the main garage angle did not show who.

But Frank remembered another camera.

Loading bay.

Different system.

They pulled the recording.

9:58 a.m.

Anthony Vale entered through the service entrance wearing a contractor jacket.

He was not scheduled.

10:09.

He walked toward the maintenance cart.

10:13.

He stepped away.

Thirty seconds later, the cart rolled.

Straight into the Bentley.

Carmine watched silently.

Anthony had staged the damage.

Helena had staged the blame.

But Leo’s presence still seemed difficult to control.

How could Helena know a three-year-old would enter the garage at exactly 10:30?

Then Teresa remembered.

“Snack time.”

Everyone looked at her.

“Helena changed Leo’s snack schedule.”

Normally Leo ate fruit in the upstairs playroom at 10:30.

That morning Helena told the kitchen to send his snack to the downstairs family room.

Beside the garage.

Then she placed Leo’s toy truck just inside the garage entrance.

Teresa had noticed it missing days earlier.

Carmine closed his eyes.

They used a toy.

A three-year-old followed his favorite truck.

Exactly as Helena expected.

Once inside, she could claim he wandered near the Bentley and caused the scratch.

Then she forced him to scrub the car so that, if anyone found them, the scene itself looked like a child being punished for damage.

She had built her own visual proof.

Except cameras had seen the truth.

Frank looked ashamed.

“I should have caught this.”

Carmine turned.

“Why?”

“It’s my garage.”

“She had admin access.”

“I still should’ve—”

“No.”

Carmine understood guilt too well.

“Her choice is not your guilt.”

Frank nodded.

That sentence would matter later.

Police financial investigators were now involved because corporate funds appeared to have been diverted.

Anthony Vale was located at a private airfield.

He had luggage.

Cash.

Two passports.

One belonged to him.

One was fake.

He was detained for questioning.

His attorney immediately called Helena’s attorney.

Then Anthony did something Helena had not expected.

He started talking.

Not because he was noble.

Because he was scared.

He said Helena controlled the scheme.

She designed the invoice process.

She picked targets.

She approved payments.

He ran Belmont.

They split profits.

Then investigators asked about Leo.

Anthony became uncomfortable.

“That wasn’t my idea.”

“Whose?”

“Helena’s.”

“Why use a child?”

Anthony looked down.

“She needed Carmine emotionally compromised.”

“For the audit?”

“More than that.”

Anthony explained Helena’s real timeline.

The Bentley incident was supposed to trigger a major fight between Carmine and Helena.

Helena planned to record it.

If Carmine became physically threatening, she would claim he was unstable.

Then she intended to use that claim at the family board.

Carmine frowned.

“To remove me?”

Anthony shook his head.

“To take emergency control of your household division.”

Carmine stared.

“And Leo?”

Anthony’s next answer made everyone silent.

“She was going to say Leo wasn’t safe with you.”

👉 Helena’s plan was not only to steal money—she intended to provoke Carmine into losing control, then use his reaction to challenge whether he should keep authority over his own son.
