Chapter 5 - The Recorded Conspiracy

Professor Whitman gasped in awe, adjusting his glasses as he peered into the dark staircase. "Incredible... an underground archive!"
Dominic pulled out a heavy tactical flashlight, illuminating the damp stone steps. "Stay close to me, Olivia."
They descended twenty feet into a subterranean stone chamber lined with dark oak bookshelves, iron safes, and vintage scientific equipment.
In the center of the room sat a heavy iron table holding a vintage reel-to-reel tape recorder and a sealed metal canister stamped with the crest of Russo Industries.
Olivia walked over to the iron table, picking up a small cassette tape resting beside the recorder. She inserted the tape into the player and pressed the heavy play button.
Static filled the stone vault, crackling softly through the speaker.
Suddenly, a warm, intellectual male voice echoed through the room—the voice of William Hart.
William’s Voice: "Dominic... if you are listening to this recording, it means Olivia has brought you to the Hudson Valley archive. I buried my life's work here to protect it from your brother Marcus."
Dominic closed his eyes, his knuckles turning white as he rested his broad hands on the edge of the iron table.
William’s Voice: "Marcus discovered my clean energy blueprints ten years ago. When I refused to sell them to his foreign buyers, he hired a saboteur to tamper with my car's steering column. I survived the crash, but I had to go into hiding to keep Olivia safe..."
Professor Whitman let out a low gasp of horror. "My God... Marcus attempted to murder him!"
Suddenly, the heavy iron door at the top of the spiral stairs was kicked open with deafening force!
Heavy tactical footsteps echoed down the stone staircase as four broad-shouldered mercenaries wearing dark tactical gear and carrying sidearms descended into the vault!

Stepping out from behind the mercenaries was Marcus Russo, wearing a dark trench coat, a sinister, victorious smile spreading across his face.
"Thank you for decoding the path, little girl," Marcus sneered, pulling a silver revolver from his coat. "Now hand over the metal canister."
