Chapter 15 - payoff + open ending

Dominic stood by the window, the quiet peace of his home wrapping around him.
The journey of Season 1 had delivered complete emotional closure. The starving little girl who had approached him on the freezing street four days ago holding four crumpled dollar bills was now safe, loved, wealthy, and holding her father's hand. The injustice of the past seven years had been wiped clean.
The Season 1 arc was 100% finished and satisfying.
Dominic walked over to his heavy mahogany desk and set the brass key 104 down beside the photograph of his father in Paris.
He reached into his pocket, pulling out the second photograph he had recovered from the red wax envelope—the photo of the ten-year-old boy standing beside Carmine Vescari in Europe.
He flipped the second photograph over under the desk lamp.
Written on the back in fresh blue ink, dated just yesterday in Paris, was a short, handwritten message in his father's unmistakable handwriting:
Dominic—you saved your daughter in Chicago. But your twin brother Leo is waiting for you in Marseilles. Bring Claire and Lily to Europe before the Council takes the docks.
Dominic’s breath hitched in his chest.
A twin brother? A brother he had been told died at birth forty-eight years ago was alive in Marseilles?
Before Dominic could speak, his private satellite phone on the desk chimed with a single incoming text message from an unlisted European number.
Dominic pulled up the message screen.
The text contained a high-resolution image of a private jet flight manifest departing Chicago O'Hare Airport tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM bound for Paris, followed by two short sentences:
Your seats are reserved, Don Dominic. Bring Lily's stuffed rabbit. The key to Vault 104 is hidden inside its lining.
Dominic’s eyes widened in sheer, utter shock.
He slowly turned his head toward the adjoining bedroom where six-year-old Lily lay fast asleep, holding her brown stuffed rabbit tightly against her chest.
The stuffed rabbit she had carried on the street four days ago? The rabbit her mother had given her six years ago?
May you like
What was hidden inside the rabbit? Who had given it to Claire six years ago? And what was waiting for them in Paris?
Dominic reached out his hand, closing his fingers tightly around the brass key 104, his grey-blue eyes narrowing into cold, lethal steel as the ultimate mystery of his family's international bloodline unfolded before him, creating a natural, irresistible bridge straight toward Chapter 16 and Season 2.
