Chapter 10

The morning sun broke through the clouds, painting the Greenwich estate in brilliant, cinematic shades of gold and emerald. The air was fresh and crisp, carrying the clean scent of ocean salt and damp earth.

Inside the grand dining hall, the massive mahogany table was set for a royal breakfast. Sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors overlooking the rolling lawns.

At the head of the table sat Adrian Cole. He wore an immaculate tailored black suit, a crisp white dress shirt, and his luxury watch. His dark hair was perfectly groomed, his light stubble neat, his face carrying a sense of profound, quiet peace that had been absent for three years.

Sitting to his right was Emma Hayes. She looked radiant in a soft yellow silk blouse, her blonde-brown hair falling in gentle waves around her shoulders. She was no longer a housekeeper; she sat at the table as the mother of the Cole family heir, her fair rosy skin glowing in the morning light.

And sitting at the end of the table, perched high on a booster seat, was three-year-old Nora.

She wore a beautiful pale-blue floral dress, white socks, yellow shoes, and her iconic oversized black silk tie wrapped proudly around her collar. In front of her sat a plate of miniature pancakes covered in syrup, flanked by her tiny yellow toy purse and her pink toy phone.

Nora picked up a silver fork, tilted her head to the left, rested her chin on her tiny curled fist, and studied her pancakes with intense, businesslike concentration.

Emma watched her daughter with a soft, affectionate smile, reaching out to stroke her blonde curls. "Eat your breakfast, sweetie."

Nora looked up at Adrian, her bright blue eyes sparkling with innocent authority. She picked up her pink toy phone, flipped it open, and pressed it against her cheek.

"Cancel my morning meeting," Nora commanded gravely into the plastic phone. "I am eating pancakes."

Adrian let out a deep, booming laugh that echoed through the grand dining hall. He picked up his coffee cup, raising it toward his tiny niece in a silent, affectionate toast.

"A wise business decision, little boss," Adrian smiled warmly.

Marcus walked into the dining hall, carrying a leather folder. He bowed his head respectfully toward Emma and Nora before approaching Adrian.

"Boss," Marcus whispered softly. "The New York syndicate has officially surrendered their northern territory. The Commission has recognized Nora Cole as the official heir to James’s legacy."

Adrian nodded slowly, his intense gaze drifting toward the window, looking out over the expansive, peaceful grounds of his empire.

He had spent years believing that his life was defined only by blood, violence, and territory. But looking at the smiling child sitting beside him—wearing his tie, carrying his brother's blood, and ruling the estate with a plastic toy phone—Adrian realized that his true reign had only just begun.

Nora set her toy phone down, opened her tiny yellow purse, and pulled out James’s silver lighter. She set it gently beside Adrian’s coffee cup.

"For you, Uncle Adrian," Nora said sweetly. "So you don't lose your shiny box."

Adrian picked up the heavy silver lighter, feeling the smooth, engraved crest against his fingertips. He looked at Nora, then at Emma, his dark eyes filled with an absolute, unbreakable promise.

"Thank you, Nora," Adrian whispered smoothly. "Nobody is going to lose anything ever again."

The little girl smiled radiantly, adjusted her giant black tie, and took a big bite of her pancake, completely unaware that she was the safest child in the world, guarded by the King of Connecticut.
