Chapter 20

Marcus walked into the dining hall, carrying a pristine leather folder. He bowed his head respectfully toward Emma and Nora before approaching Adrian.
"Boss," Marcus whispered softly. "The federal raids in Chicago began at dawn. The entire Commission has been indicted. The threat is completely neutralized. Furthermore, the remaining syndicates across the country have sent word. They recognize Nora Cole not just as an heir, but as untouchable."
Adrian nodded slowly, his intense gaze drifting toward the window, looking out over the expansive, peaceful grounds of his empire. He had spent years believing his life was defined only by blood, violence, and territory. But as he looked at Emma’s loving smile and Nora’s fearless demeanor, he realized that his true reign was about protecting the light within the darkness.
Nora set her phone down, opened her yellow purse, and pulled out James’s antique silver lighter. She set it gently beside Adrian’s coffee cup, right where it belonged.
"For you, Uncle Adrian," Nora said sweetly. "So you don't lose your shiny box."
Adrian picked up the heavy silver lighter, feeling the smooth, engraved crest against his fingertips. The crude initials J.C. stared back at him, a testament to a brother's love and a father's ultimate sacrifice. He looked at Nora, then at Emma, his dark eyes filled with an absolute, unbreakable promise.
"Thank you, Nora," Adrian whispered smoothly. "Nobody is going to lose anything ever again."
The little girl smiled radiantly, adjusted her giant black tie, and took a big bite of her pancake. She was completely unaware that she was the safest child in the world, guarded by the King of Connecticut.

Yet, as Adrian sipped his coffee, his encrypted phone vibrated silently in his suit pocket. He glanced at the screen. A single, anonymous message glowed in the dim light: Chicago falls, but the European table rises. We will be in touch.
Adrian’s jaw tightened subtly. He slipped the phone back into his pocket, his face an unreadable mask of pure control. The storm had passed, but in his world, peace was only a temporary luxury. He looked at Emma and Nora, his resolve hardening into diamond. Let Europe come. He would handle it.
