Chapter 3 - the physician's lie

Emily stepped forward, her blonde bun slightly disheveled, her blue eyes wide with protective concern as she held eight-year-old Lily against her side.

"Mr. Turner..." Emily murmured, her sweet voice sounding like soft music to Vincent's newly awakened ears. "The object Lily pulled out... it's a high-grade medical silicone plug used in specialized otolaryngology procedures. It requires surgical precision to insert and remove."

Vincent walked back to his desk, picking up the small dark plug resting on the desk blotter. He held it up under the desk lamp light.

"My father died when I was two years old," Vincent said softly, testing the sound of his own voice in the room. "My cousin Marcus and Dr. Vance took control of the family trust under the claim that a deaf heir could not manage the syndicate alone."

Lily looked up at the tall billionaire, her bright blue-gray eyes clear and unbothered. "You don't need them, Mr. Turner. You can hear the ships now."

A rare, faint smile touched Vincent's sharp, handsome features as he looked down at the eight-year-old girl. "Yes, little princess. I can hear the ships."

He turned his gaze back to Emily. "Why did you apply for the maid position at this estate three weeks ago, Emily? Your employment records came through a private agency in Boston."

Emily lowered her eyes, her hands trembling over her white apron. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, yellowed paper envelope, setting it gently on the mahogany desk.

"My late sister, Sarah, was Dr. Vance's private nurse four years ago," Emily revealed softly. "Before she died in an suspicious accident, she left me a journal detailing how Dr. Vance was being paid five million dollars a year from an offshore account to maintain a 'permanent blockage' on the Turner heir."

Vincent took the envelope, sliding out a handwritten diary page. The ink clearly detailed monthly wire transfers from a Panama shell company owned directly by Marcus Turner.

The dark truth was completely laid bare. Vincent had been intentionally kept in the dark for nearly four decades so his cousin could siphon hundreds of millions of dollars from the Turner Global conglomerate.

Suddenly, the intercom on Vincent's desk flared to life with a quiet buzz, followed by Marcus's voice speaking through the desktop speaker:

"Vincent, the senior captains have arrived for the monthly syndicate meeting in the subterranean boardroom. We require your presence to sign the new shipping contracts."

Vincent looked at the speaker, his eyes turning into dark, lethal iron. He looked at Emily and Lily.

"Stay in this room," Vincent commanded gently. "I am going to hear what my captains really think of me."
