Chapter 5 - the maid's lockbox

Chaos erupted in the subterranean boardroom.

Captain Carmine scrambled out of his chair, pulling a concealed sidearm from his coat, but Vincent moved with predatory speed!

Vincent grabbed the heavy walnut chair beside him, swinging it with broad, muscular strength, smashing Carmine's weapon out of his grip and pinning the captain against the stone wall!

Two loyal Moretti enforcers—who had served Vincent's father decades ago—instantly drew their weapons, pointing them directly at Marcus and the remaining traitorous captains!

"Stand down!" loyal Captain Joseph shouted, his voice echoing. "The Don speaks! Anyone who moves dies here!"

Marcus backed against the wall, sweating profusely, his hands trembling. "Vincent... listen to me! It was Dr. Vance! He told us you had a nerve condition when you were a baby! We were protecting the family!"

"You were stealing from my father's grave, Marcus," Vincent said, stepping up to his cousin, his towering frame casting a massive shadow across the floor. "Where is Dr. Vance right now?"

"He's... he's in the east wing medical lab," Marcus stammered, completely broken. "He was preparing the secondary anesthetic for tonight..."

Vincent turned to Captain Joseph. "Lock these traitors in the cellar holding cells. Do not let them touch a phone."

Vincent strode out of the subterranean boardroom, heading straight toward the east wing.

When he reached his private study, he found Emily standing near the desk, holding a heavy bronze candle holder in her small hands, protecting Lily, who sat safely behind the mahogany chair.

"Vincent!" Emily gasped in relief as he walked through the door. "We heard heavy footsteps in the corridor!"

Vincent walked up to her, his sharp features softening as he reached out, gently taking the bronze candle holder from her hands and setting it on the desk.

"You're safe, Emily," Vincent said softly, his deep voice thick with genuine warmth. "My loyal men have secured the lower levels. Now it's time to deal with the doctor."

Lily stepped out from behind the desk, holding her small silver tiara in her hands. "Mr. Turner, the doctor walked past the hallway two minutes ago. He had a black box in his bag."

Vincent looked down at the eight-year-old girl, offering a proud smile. "Thank you, little princess. Stay here with your mother."
