Chapter 6 - the listening Don

Accompanied by Captain Joseph and two armed guards, Vincent pushed open the double glass doors of the east wing medical lab.
Dr. Arthur Vance stood near a stainless steel prep table, holding a glass syringe filled with clear anesthetic liquid, alongside a small velvet case containing three dark silicone ear plugs.
Dr. Vance turned around, expecting to see his security guards. Instead, he saw Vincent Turner standing in the doorway, surrounded by loyal enforcers.
"Don Vincent!" Dr. Vance stammered, dropping the glass syringe onto the floor, where it shattered into a hundred pieces! "I... I was just preparing your evening vitamins!"
Vincent walked slowly across the tiled floor, his polished leather shoes clicking loudly in the quiet room. He reached out, picking up the velvet case from the prep table, opening the lid to reveal the dark silicone plugs.
"Thirty-seven years, Arthur," Vincent said, his deep voice dropping into an icy, hollow register. "How much did my cousin pay you to keep me in the dark?"
Dr. Vance backed against the prep counter, trembling violently. "Vincent... please! It wasn't just Marcus! Your uncle Victor in Chicago organized the original medical board thirty-seven years ago!"
Vincent's eyes narrowed. "My uncle Victor?"
"Victor knew your father left his entire global estate to you in a sealed trust!" Dr. Vance confessed frantically, weeping with terror. "Under the terms of the trust, if you were deemed permanently disabled before age eighteen, the executive control defaulted to Victor and Marcus! I was forced into it!"
Vincent closed the velvet box with a sharp click. "Where is the original signed trust document, Arthur?"
"In... in the private safety deposit vault at First National Bank on Fifth Avenue!" Dr. Vance gasped. "Victor keeps the master key in his office in Chicago!"

Vincent turned to Captain Joseph. "Take Dr. Vance into custody. Have our legal team freeze every account registered under his name."
As the guards dragged the weeping physician away, Vincent looked out the high lab window toward the dark, rain-soaked skyline of New York City, realizing that the war for his bloodline was far from over.
