Chapter 10 - The Threshold of Tomorrow

Six months later, the spring sun warmed the grand back terrace of the Valenti estate. Blooming cherry blossom trees framed the lush green lawn where three-year-old Sophie was running happily in a new pale yellow dress, her yellow boots splashing in a small stone fountain.
Sitting at a wrought-iron table on the terrace was Claire. She wore an elegant cream silk dress, her long brown hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders, her rosy skin glowing with health and radiant happiness.
Dominic walked out onto the terrace carrying two glasses of fresh lemonade. He set the glasses down, sat beside Claire, and gently wrapped his broad arm around her shoulders, pulling her against his side.
Claire looked up at him, smiling softly as she rested her hand over his tattooed forearm. "What are you thinking about, Dominic?"
"I'm thinking about how a five-minute hug saved my life," Dominic said softly, his intense dark eyes filled with deep, unwavering devotion as he kissed her temple.
Sophie came running up the terrace steps, holding Mr. Buttons by his ears, her messy brown braids bouncing as she jumped onto Dominic's lap.
"Papa! Look!" Sophie giggled, holding up a fresh drawing covered in bright yellow and red crayon marks.
Dominic held the paper, looking down at her drawing of a big house with three people and a stuffed rabbit holding hands under a big yellow sun.
"This is going right on my office wall, little princess," Dominic smiled, kissing her cheek.
Sophie giggled, wrapping her small arms around his neck, giving him another warm hug.
Just then, Marco walked quietly out onto the terrace, holding an unsealed black leather envelope bearing an official international wax seal from Europe.
"Sorry to disturb the afternoon, Boss," Marco said, his tone unusually serious. "This was just delivered by a diplomatic courier from London."
Dominic’s smile faded slightly. He accepted the heavy envelope, broke the dark wax seal, and pulled out a single sheet of aged parchment paper.
Written across the parchment in dark, elegant silver calligraphy was a short, cryptic message:
Dominic Valenti,
You have defeated Julian Vance and claimed your legitimate heir in Chicago.
But the silver pendant your daughter wears carries a secondary access key to the Sovereign Vault in Zurich—a vault created by your late father twenty years ago.
Your daughter Sophie is the designated primary beneficiary of the European trust.
The Sovereign Council.
Dominic stared down at the silver ink as a cold, electric resolve settled over his broad frame. He felt no fear—only the unyielding, protective strength of a father who would burn the world to protect his family.
He folded the parchment slowly, slipping it into his jacket pocket, and looked down at Claire and little Sophie, who were laughing together under the spring sun.

Dominic looked at Marco, a slow, fierce smile touching his lips.
"Prep the private jet for Zurich, Marco," Dominic commanded in a low, lethal baritone. "Our family's journey has just begun."
