Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Crest

An hour later, the rain had stopped, giving way to a crisp, golden sunrise over Lake Forest.
Inside the master suite, the heavy steel doors opened smoothly.
Claire sat on the edge of the plush bed, holding Sophie in her lap. The little girl was awake, rubbing her eyes with her small fists, cradling Mr. Buttons against her pale yellow lace dress.
Dominic walked into the room. He had changed into a dry black shirt and trousers, his dark wavy hair neatly styled, his light stubble groomed. He looked taller, handsomer, and more relaxed than he had in four long years.
When Sophie saw him, her large brown eyes lit up with pure joy.
"Papa!" Sophie cheered, reaching her small arms out toward him.
Dominic’s rugged face transformed into a radiant, breathtaking smile. He stepped across the room, leaning down to lift his daughter into his massive arms, pulling her tightly against his chest. He kissed her cheek, letting out a deep, emotional sigh that carried four years of buried grief away into the morning air.
Claire stood up from the bed, watching them with tears of happiness streaming down her face.
Dominic extended his arm, gently wrapping his hand around Claire's waist, pulling her close against his side so all three of them were held together in a warm, unbroken embrace.
"You don't have to hide anymore, Claire," Dominic whispered into her brown hair. "This house is your home. You and Sophie will never be alone again."
Claire leaned her head against his broad, warm shoulder, feeling a profound sense of safety and love she had never known existed.
Later that morning, the family sat together in the sunlit breakfast room overlooking the estate gardens. Sophie sat in a high chair, happily eating warm pancakes with maple syrup, while Mr. Buttons sat in a small chair beside her plate.
Marco walked into the room, holding a leather folder. He set an official legal document onto the table in front of Dominic and Claire.
"The federal indictments against Julian Vance's syndicate have been filed, Boss," Marco reported with a rare, genuine smile. "And these are the official legal adoption and paternity documents recognizing Sophie Valenti as your legitimate heir."

Dominic picked up a gold fountain pen, signed his name across the bottom line, and handed the pen to Claire.
Claire signed her name beside his, sealing their new life together.
