Chapter 4 - The Broken Engagement

The air inside the private suite turned to ice.

Amelia stepped into the room, her high heels clicking loudly against the hardwood floor. She held a sleek designer clutch in her gloved hand, her blonde hair perfectly styled, her eyes sweeping over Grace's simple pink dress and the three children playing on the rug.

"So this is why you canceled our proposal dinner, Ryan?" Amelia asked, her voice laced with sharp, aristocratic condescension. "You brought your runaway ex-wife and a group of street orphans into your private estate?"

Ryan turned slowly to face her. His towering frame radiated a cold, lethal authority that made even Amelia pause for a fraction of a second.

"Watch your mouth, Amelia," Ryan said, his voice a low, terrifying rumble. "You are speaking about my children."

Amelia let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "Your children? Ryan, you’ve been divorced for three years! She vanished without a trace! Do you honestly believe those three children belong to the Whitmore bloodline?"

Little Ethan stood up from the rug, his small hands tucked into his tan trousers. He walked over to Grace, stepping protectively in front of his mother's knees, his serious gray-blue eyes locking onto Amelia with pure, childlike defiance.

Amelia glanced down at Ethan's face, and for a second, her confident posture fractured. The resemblance between the three-year-old boy and the billionaire standing beside him was undeniable.

"Leave, Amelia," Ryan commanded softly.

"Ryan, my father controls thirty percent of your board shares!" Amelia snapped, her face flushing red with anger. "We were supposed to announce our merger tonight! If you walk away from me for this woman, my father will destroy your market valuation by morning!"

Ryan walked up to Amelia, stopping inches from her face. He reached into his coat pocket, pulled out the plush velvet engagement box, and set it cold into her gloved palm.

"Tell your father he can sell his shares tomorrow," Ryan whispered coldly. "The engagement is over. Get off my property."

Amelia stared at the velvet box in her hand, her jaw trembling with pure rage. She glared at Grace, then at the three children, before turning on her heel and sweeping out of the suite, slamming the doors behind her.

Ryan turned to Marcus, who was standing near the corridor. "Marcus, lock down the estate. Block Arthur Vance and Richard Brooks from accessing our private servers."

"Already done, Boss," Marcus replied smoothly.

Ryan walked back to Grace, kneeling beside Ethan, who was still standing protectively in front of his mother. Ryan reached out, gently placing a large, warm hand over Ethan's small shoulder.

"Nobody is ever going to intimidate you or your mother again, Ethan," Ryan said softly, his gray-blue eyes shining with absolute resolve.

Grace looked at Ryan, tears sparkling in her eyes. "Ryan... Arthur Vance still holds the master medical authority over the pediatric trust. That file I received tonight... it contains the results of Ethan's blood test."

Ryan looked up at Grace, his brow furrowing. "What blood test, Grace?"

"Ethan has a rare genetic blood disorder," Grace revealed softly. "And the only compatible donor in the country... is you."
