Chapter 8

An hour later, the heavy steel blast shutters were raised, allowing the bright golden light of the late afternoon sun to flood back into the magnificent estate. The front courtyard had been cleared, security restored, and Lorenzo Falcone taken away to a secure, subterranean holding facility beneath the Moretti docks to await final judgment.
In the grand dining room of the estate, a lavish meal had been prepared by the kitchen staff. The massive mahogany table, which had stood empty and cold for months while Alessandro isolated himself in his grief, was filled with flowers, warm dishes, and sparkling crystal.
Alessandro sat at the head of the table in his black wheelchair, wearing a fresh tailored black suit. Sitting directly to his right was Sophia, looking radiant in a soft yellow silk dress provided by the estate's personal stylers, her long chestnut hair flowing loosely over her shoulders. Beside her sat three-year-old Emma in a high chair, happily eating a plate of fresh pasta while holding a golden butter cookie in her left hand.
Marco stood near the entrance of the dining room, a genuine smile touching his stern face as he watched his boss laugh at one of Emma’s cheerful stories.
"Boss," Marco called out quietly, stepping forward with an encrypted folder. "The legal documents from our syndicate attorneys have arrived."
Alessandro took the folder, opening it flat on the table. Inside were official legal adoption and paternity declarations, alongside deed transfers that placed forty percent of the Moretti estate’s primary assets and offshore trusts into a private, unbreakable trust fund under Emma Moretti’s name.
He signed his name at the bottom with a fountain pen, his dark ink tattoos prominent against his white shirt cuff. Then he passed the documents over to Sophia.
"What is this, Alessandro?" Sophia asked, reading the bold letters at the top of the page.
"It is Emma's legal recognition," Alessandro explained, his deep voice smooth and absolute. "From this day forward, she is officially Emma Moretti—my legitimate daughter and sole heir. No one in the syndicate, no rival family, and no court can ever challenge her place."
Sophia looked at the documents, then up at Alessandro, her expressive brown eyes shining with tears of gratitude. "Alessandro... this is too much. The wealth—"
"It is not about wealth, Sophia," Alessandro interrupted gently, reaching across the table to cover her hand with his own. "It is about legacy. It is about ensuring that my daughter and the woman I love will be protected for the rest of their lives, no matter what happens to me."
Sophia’s breath caught at his words—*the woman I love*. The raw, honest confession echoed through the grand room, filling the lingering silence with a profound warmth.

Emma looked up from her plate, clapping her sauce-stained hands happily. "Yay! More cookies for Daddy!"
Alessandro let out a deep, booming laugh that echoed through the high ceilings of the mansion—a sound his staff hadn't heard in over five long years.
