Chapter 8

Two weeks later, the Castalano estate was host to the annual Metropolitan Syndicate Gala—an exclusive, high-stakes evening gathering that brought together New York's most powerful families, high-society donors, and political figures under one roof.
The grand ballroom and surrounding courtyard were illuminated by glowing crystal chandeliers, warm golden lanterns, and lavish floral arrangements of white roses and pale orchids. Elegant guests in expensive tuxedos and silk gowns moved across the marble floors, sipping champagne while a live string quartet played soft classical music near the grand staircase.
Standing near the central bar, wearing his impeccably tailored black luxury suit, open black shirt, and dark burgundy pocket square, was Vincent Castalano. His broad-shouldered frame dominated the space, his dark rose tattoos glinting beneath the lights, his sharp jawline setting a tone of absolute, untouchable power. Beside him stood Renzo Moretti, looking sharp in his charcoal suit.
Following the total destruction of the Falcone syndicate's harbor operations two weeks prior—a strike executed with terrifying, surgical precision by Vincent's tactical teams—Vincent was now recognized as the undisputed ruler of New York's commercial shipping networks.
Suddenly, the string quartet paused mid-melody.
Descending the grand black-and-gold iron staircase was Clara. She looked breathtakingly beautiful in a sophisticated cream-colored silk gown, her dark brown hair styled in elegant waves, her face glowing with radiant health and confidence.
And holding Clara’s hand, walking down the marble steps with absolute, majestic pride, was three-year-old Mia.
Mia wore her signature pastel-blue princess dress with its soft pink tulle layers, delicate floral embroidery, pink satin bows, and ruffled straps. Her golden-brown hair was styled in a pristine high bun decorated with vibrant pink-and-blue ribbon bows. In her other hand, she carried a small gold play fan.
A collective hush fell over the two hundred elite guests as the tiny girl stepped onto the ballroom floor.
Mia marched straight across the room, past hardened mob captains, corrupt judges, and wealthy shipping magnates, who all pulled back in quiet reverence. She walked straight up to Vincent, planted her small feet on the marble, and tapped her gold fan against his black suit trousers.
"Big boss!" Mia announced loudly, her innocent voice ringing through the silent ballroom. "I am checking the party!"

Vincent let out a rich, handsome laugh that echoed off the vaulted ceiling. He dropped down onto one knee in front of two hundred astonished guests, taking her small hand in his tattooed palm.
"Welcome to the gala, Boss," Vincent said dryly, his dark eyes sparkling with profound happiness. "The floor is yours."
