Chapter 8 - the public declaration

By 10:00 AM the following morning, the storm had cleared, leaving a crisp, brilliant blue sky over the city.

The grand press room at the Hale Corporate Plaza in downtown Manhattan was packed with over two hundred journalists, news cameras, and syndicate leaders. Flashbulbs strobed continuously as reporters whispered frantically about the late-night arrest of Underboss Victor Sterling.

The side doors opened, and the room fell into a stunned silence.

Julian Hale walked onto the raised stage. He was impeccably dressed in a dark navy suit, white dress shirt, and polished shoes, his dark hair styled back, his presence commanding total respect.

In his arms, Julian carried three-year-old Amara. The little girl wore a stunning new teal velvet dress with a fresh teal bow pinned in her brown hair, looking curiously at the flashing cameras without a single hint of fear.

Walking beside Julian was Grace, looking breathtaking in an elegant cream silk dress, her soft brown hair falling neatly over her shoulders.

Julian stepped up to the microphone podium, setting Amara gently onto her feet beside him. He placed his broad hand protectively on Amara's small shoulder, while reaching his other hand out to take Grace's hand into his own.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the press, and members of the city council," Julian announced, his deep voice carrying clearly through every broadcast speaker across the nation. "Three years ago, a terrible crime was committed against my family. My daughter was stolen from Saint Jude’s Hospital, and I was led to believe she had perished."

Gasps erupted across the auditorium.

"Last night, through the extraordinary bravery of Grace Bennett—who saved my daughter from the fire and protected her for three years—my child was returned to me," Julian declared, his eyes shining with pride. "Her name is Amara Bennett Hale. She is my biological daughter, my sole heir, and the light of my life."

Julian looked down at Grace, his expression softening with deep affection. "And effective immediately, Grace Bennett is appointed as the permanent co-guardian of my estate and the President of the newly formed Sophia Hale Children’s Foundation, funded with a fifty-million-dollar endowment."

The press room erupted into thunderous applause and a storm of camera flashes. Reporters clamored to take photos of the beautiful family standing united on stage.
