Chapter 9 - the family restored

Two months later, the early summer sun warmed the sprawling gardens of the Hale estate. Red roses and purple hydrangeas were in full bloom, filling the sweet air with a delicate fragrance.

Sitting on a blanket on the green lawn was Amara, happily stacking wooden building blocks with Vance, who was patiently helping her build a tall castle tower.

Sitting on a wooden bench nearby were Julian and Grace. Julian wore a relaxed white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing his muscular, tattooed forearms. He held two glasses of fresh iced lemonade, handing one to Grace.

"She’s getting so tall," Grace said softly, gazing at Amara with a warm smile. "And she hasn't stopped talking about her tea party tomorrow."

"She gets her stubbornness from me, but her sweetness from you," Julian chuckled, his deep laugh rich and full.

Grace looked at Julian, her brown eyes soft and thoughtful. "Do you ever miss the quiet, Julian? Before we invaded your dining room?"

Julian turned to look at Grace, reaching out to take her soft hand in his. His dark eyes were intense, filled with an undeniable, deep romantic devotion.

"My life was an empty house before you and Amara walked into that dining room, Grace," Julian said softly. "You didn't just save my daughter. You saved me."

Grace felt her heart skip a beat, her cheeks flushing a soft, rosy pink as she leaned closer to him. "I love you, Julian."

Julian leaned in, his lips gently brushing hers in a sweet, passionate kiss under the summer sun, sealing a promise that had been three years in the making.

"Daddy! Mommy! Look!" Amara cheered, running over to the bench and holding up a bright yellow butterfly she had caught in her tiny hands before letting it fly into the sky.

Julian laughed, scooping Amara up into his lap and pulling Grace close to his side as the three of them laughed together under the clear blue sky.

Vance walked up the garden path, carrying a silver tray with a heavy, wax-sealed black envelope.

"Boss," Vance said respectfully, stopping beside the bench. "This package just arrived by diplomatic courier from the central probate vault in London. It belonged to your late father."
