Chapter 6 - the breach at midnight

"Boss!" Marcus's voice boomed over the emergency comms speaker on the wall. "Hostiles breaching the eastern perimeter! Multiple armored vans! It's Victor's private mercenary crew!"

Nathan didn't panic. He set Lily down gently on the bed beside Sarah, pulled two extra magazines from his jacket, and drew his silver revolver.

"Lock this room from the inside, Sarah," Nathan commanded, his voice cold and steady. "Do not open it for anyone except me or Marcus."

"Nate, be careful!" Sarah cried out, holding Lily close to her chest.

Nathan offered a short, dangerous smirk. "This is my house, Sarah. Nobody takes it from me."

Nathan stepped out into the grand hallway, slamming the heavy reinforced door shut behind him.

The corridor was filled with smoke as automatic gunfire erupted from the lower foyer! Three mercenaries dressed in dark tactical gear burst up the grand marble staircase, their weapon beams cutting through the dark!

Nathan moved like a dark whirlwind of destruction. He leaned out from the landing pillar and fired three swift, precise shots, the heavy rounds tearing through the lead mercenary's chest and sending him tumbling backward down the marble steps!

Nathan advanced down the stairs with heavy, unshakeable strides, clearing the lower foyer with lethal precision. Marcus and eight loyal Moretti enforcers flanked the entryways, returning heavy fire against the incoming attackers.

Through the shattered front doors, Nathan saw his uncle Victor standing near an armored black sedan at the gate, holding a satellite radio, shouting orders to his men.

"Victor!" Nathan's voice roared through the smoky foyer like thunder.

Victor turned his head in shock, his eyes widening as he saw Nathan charging through the smoke like an invincible god of war, clearing four mercenaries in five seconds flat!

Victor scrambled into the rear seat of his armored sedan, screaming to his driver: "Get us out of here! Drive!"

The black sedan slammed into reverse, tires screeching against the wet gravel as it sped away through the broken iron gates into the dark night.

Nathan stood on the grand stone porch, his chest heaving, his dark eyes locked onto the retreating vehicle with lethal intensity.

Marcus ran up beside him, bleeding from a small graze on his arm. "Boss! Should we pursue?"

"No," Nathan growled, lowering his weapon. "Let him run. He's going to the central vault downtown to destroy the original land deeds. We catch him there."
