Chapter 10 - The Crown and the Paintbrush

By six o'clock the following morning, the thick lake fog had cleared, leaving behind a brilliant, sunlit dawn that bathed the Moretti lakefront estate in golden light.

The broken glass had been cleared, the perimeter gates restored, and peace returned to the mansion.

Inside the grand private study, the morning sun filtered through the tall arched windows, casting a warm light across the dark mahogany bookshelves, the leather armchairs, and the polished oak desk.

Alessandro Moretti sat in his large leather executive chair behind the desk. He wore a fresh, perfectly tailored dark navy suit, a crisp white dress shirt open at the collar, his dark hair combed back neatly, his dark eyes clear, steady, and filled with quiet, undeniable triumph.

Standing beside his chair, dressed in an exquisite dark emerald silk dress provided by the estate stylist, was Sophia. Her fair rosy skin was glowing, her dark hair falling softly over her shoulders, her presence graceful, beautiful, and sovereign.

And sitting right in the center of Alessandro's massive oak desk, swinging her small white shoes playfully, was three-year-old Emma. She wore a brand-new mustard-yellow floral dress with a white lace collar, holding her watercolor palette and paintbrush happily.

Alessandro leaned forward, resting his forearms on the desk, looking at his small niece with a warm, genuine smile.

"Emma," Alessandro asked softly, his deep voice filling the peaceful study. "Are you going to paint my face today?"

Emma looked up from her palette, her bright brown eyes sparkling with delight. "Can I make another butterfly, Uncle Alessandro?"

Sophia let out a soft, genuine laugh—a warm sound that filled the grand room—and reached out her hand to gently touch Alessandro’s broad shoulder.

"Only if he has an executive meeting at nine o'clock, Emma," Sophia joked softly.

Alessandro let out a deep, booming laugh that echoed warmly off the wood-paneled walls. He reached out his broad, tattooed hand, gently patting Emma’s head. "The board members in Zurich can wait, Emma. Paint whatever you like."

Emma dipped her brush into bright yellow paint, leaning forward on the desk, and carefully drew a small, fresh yellow flower right on Alessandro's sharp cheekbone.

Marcus stepped into the study, holding a silver tray with fresh coffee cups and a secure tablet. He looked at his feared Mafia Boss sitting behind the executive desk with a yellow watercolor flower on his cheek, offering a respectful, warm bow.

"The European council has officially withdrawn their claims, Boss," Marcus reported with a smile. "The Moretti empire is fully consolidated under your authority and Emma's bloodline trust."

Alessandro picked up his coffee cup, taking a quiet sip as he looked out over the sunlit waters of Lake Michigan, holding Sophia's hand in his broad palm while Emma happily painted blue butterfly wings across his forehead.

The battle for Chicago was over, the secrets laid bare, and the feared mob boss had found his true crown—not in guns or gold, but in the innocent love of the little girl who had made him pretty.
