Chapter 25 - LILY’S FILM

Lily became a documentary filmmaker.

Of course she did.

The child who once found hidden letters became professionally interested in archives, memory, and who gets to tell a story.

I refused to interpret that aloud.

She would have murdered me.

At thirty, she directed a film about family-owned institutions transitioning from founder control to professional governance.

Not about us.

Different families.

Different industries.

Still, I recognized themes.

Silence.

Inherited authority.

Informal gatekeepers.

She interviewed Evelyn for background but did not use her on camera.

Me neither.

Good.

Then a journalist asked Lily whether being a Morello shaped her interest.

She answered:

“Everyone is shaped by where they grow up. That doesn’t mean every project is autobiography.”

I sent the quote to Evelyn.

She replied:

Do not text her that you’re proud. She’ll think you’re making it symbolic.

Marriage teaches strategy.

The film won an award.

May you like

At dinner afterward Lily let me say proud once.

One.
