Chapter 10 - the threshold of sixteen

Sixteen months later, a brilliant golden sunset painted the sky over the Serrano estate in radiant shades of amber and gold.
The grand gardens were decorated with thousands of white roses, crystal decorations, and golden banners for a magnificent occasion—the official sixteenth anniversary of the unified Serrano-Bennett Dynasty charter.
High-society leaders, corporate executives, and loyal family members gathered around the wide marble terrace, raising their glasses in honor of Claire and Dominic.
Claire, now thirty-three years old and looking radiant in an exquisite pale-gold silk gown, stood beside Dominic on the grand terrace steps. She wore her family's signet ring proudly on her finger, sparkling brightly under the warm evening sun.
Dominic Serrano, tall, broad-shouldered, rugged, battle-hardened, and remarkably handsome in his custom dark tuxedo, stood tall at her side, his arm wrapped comfortably around her waist, radiating absolute authority and protective devotion.
After the toasts concluded, Dominic motioned for Claire and Eleanor to follow him down into the subterranean vault wing beneath the south wing.
They walked down the clean stone corridor until they stood before a massive, ancient steel vault door embedded deep in the bedrock foundation, featuring sixteen gold combination dials arranged in a circle.
"This chamber was created by your ancestors a century ago," Dominic explained, his deep voice carrying a rich, resonant pride. "It holds the foundational trust charters, land titles, and private estate holdings of the entire eastern territory."
Dominic pulled the double crest key from his pocket and handed it to Claire.
"Together," Dominic said softly, "we turn the sixteenth dial."
Claire stepped forward, inserting the double crest key into the central lock mechanism while Dominic placed his broad hand over hers. Together, they turned the key and aligned the sixteen gold dials side by side.

The massive multi-ton steel vault door slowly unsealed, swinging open to reveal a breathtaking marble chamber illuminated by warm golden lights. Inside lay historical treasures, family heirlooms, and three massive iron chests stamped with the unified Serrano-Bennett crest.
In the center of the room stood a single marble pedestal holding an antique velvet display box.
Claire stepped forward and opened the box, revealing an official unread leather scroll bound by a red silk ribbon, alongside a small brass compass engraved with European coordinates.
