Chapter 5 - the messenger in the rain

The grand foyer fell into stunned, breathless silence as Eleanor Bennett walked slowly across the marble floor. Rainwater dripped from the hem of her dark wool coat, leaving a wet trail on the polished stone.
Claire threw her arms around her mother, tears overflowing from her eyes as she held her close. Eleanor held her daughter tight, her fair, rosy cheeks wet with joyful tears.
"I had to stay in hiding until you reached your thirty-second birthday, my sweet child," Eleanor whispered gently, patting Claire's hair. "It was the only way to protect the legal codicil."
Vivienne backed away toward her legal team, her face pale as ash, her vicious composure completely shattered. "You're dead! I saw the hospital report eight years ago!"
"You saw a fake report paid for by your own corrupt funds, Vivienne," Eleanor countered, her voice rich with aristocratic authority.
Eleanor reached into her coat, pulling out a sealed leather folder bound with red silk ribbon, handing it directly to Don Corrado and the council elders.
"Inside that folder," Eleanor explained, "is the full audit of the Serrano estate accounts for the last ten years, along with the original biometric birth registry proving Claire's full bloodline inheritance."
Don Corrado opened the folder, reading through the certified bank records. His stern face turned to stone as he looked up at Vivienne.
"Vivienne Serrano," Don Corrado declared heavily. "You have embezzled forty million dollars from the trust fund, forged land transfer deeds, and attempted to usurp the rightful heir of this estate."
"No!" Vivienne shrieked, looking at her four private security guards. "Take them down! Take the papers!"
Vivienne’s guards reached for their holstered sidearms, but Dominic moved like a lightning strike.
He stepped between the guards and Eleanor, drawing his custom sidearm in a single fluid motion. With four rapid, precise movements, Dominic disarmed the lead guard, struck the second guard across the jaw, and sent the remaining two crashing onto the marble floor.
Within seconds, the threat was neutralized.

"Take her away," Dominic ordered flatly, pointing his finger at Vivienne.
Council guards stepped forward, firmly taking Vivienne by her arms as she kicked and screamed, her emerald dress tearing as she was dragged out through the front doors into the pouring rain.
