Chapter 4 - the key in the bow tie

Gabriel took the heavy brass key from his five-year-old son's hand, examining the intricate floral engravings along its handle. It was an antique skeleton key, stamped with a small, familiar crest: the crest of the Vale family estate.

Gabriel’s jaw set like iron. He looked down at Noah, gently resting his hand on the boy's dark hair. "Did the blonde lady say anything to you, Noah?"

"She told me to give it to the man in the gray suit if Mommy brought us to the big party," Noah answered in his quiet, watchful manner.

Claire gasped, rushing over to pull Noah into her arms. "Serena... Serena approached my child in Maine?"

"No," Gabriel corrected smoothly, his mind calculating fifty moves ahead. "Serena didn't go to Maine. Her father, Arthur Vale, sent her younger sister... or Serena herself tracked you down using her family's private intelligence network."

The heavy lounge doors opened. Serena Vale stepped inside, flanked by her father, Arthur Vale—a tall, silver-haired man in a immaculate black tuxedo, carrying a gold-headed cane.

"Gabriel," Arthur spoke in a smooth, cultured tone, walking into the center of the room as if he owned the floor. "I hear there is some commotion regarding your former wife. I strongly advise you to handle this matter discreetly before the council—"

Gabriel moved like a panther. In less than two seconds, Gabriel crossed the room, grabbed Arthur Vale by his velvet lapels, and slammed the older man hard against the mahogany wall. The gold-headed cane clattered loudly onto the floor.

Serena screamed in horror. "Gabriel! Stop! What are you doing?!"

"You forged her death certificate five years ago, Arthur," Gabriel hissed, his deep voice vibrating with absolute, terrifying murder. "You told me my wife was buried in Paris while you threatened her life and hid my three sons in Maine!"

Arthur choked, his eyes bulging in fear as Gabriel’s massive hand tightened around his collar. "Gabriel... listen to me... it was for the good of the Cross Syndicate! She was a liability... her family had no political weight! The Vale alliance gave you full control of the eastern seaboard!"

"You kept me from my sons for five years!" Gabriel roared, his voice echoing off the bulletproof glass so violently that even the enforcers outside straightened up in terror.

Ethan stood up from the sofa, taking his brothers' hands, watching his father defend their mother with wide, fearless eyes.

Gabriel released Arthur, letting the older man collapse to his knees on the floor, gasping for air. Gabriel stepped back, looking at Serena, whose face was pale and frantic.

"The key Noah carries opens your father's private vault in Long Island," Gabriel stated coldly. "The vault where he keeps the stolen offshore accounts and the original marriage registry files."

Serena backed away toward the door. "Gabriel... please... I didn't know about the children! My father told me Claire abandoned you!"

"Get out of my sight," Gabriel commanded flatly. "Both of you. If either of you steps within a mile of my wife or my sons again... there won't be a council meeting to save you."
