Chapter 8 - the shadow of the advisor

By noon the following day, the grand council chamber of the Cross estate was filled with thirty regional syndicate leaders from across the country.

The atmosphere was thick with tension. Rumors of Arthur Vale’s treason and the sudden appearance of Gabriel’s three heirs had sent shockwaves through the entire underworld structure.

Gabriel sat at the head of the massive oval oak table, dressed in a sharp black suit with an open-collar white shirt. His dark hair was slicked back, his jaw set in rigid steel.

Beside him stood Claire, looking immaculate in a tailored dark blue silk dress, holding Ethan’s hand, while Noah and Lucas sat quietly in velvet chairs beside their mother.

At the far end of the table sat Arthur Vale and Serena Vale, both surrounded by four heavily armed enforcers. Arthur looked haggard, his charcoal suit wrinkled, his eyes filled with desperate, scheming anger.

"Dominic... Gabriel," Arthur spoke up, trying to maintain a facade of dignity. "This council meeting is an outrage! You cannot hold a senior advisor on the uncorroborated claims of a former wife and three children!"

Gabriel didn't raise his voice. He reached into his suit jacket and pulled out the heavy, antique brass key Noah had brought from Maine. He set it down on the center of the oak table with a heavy metallic clack.

"This key opens your private safe house in Long Island, Arthur," Gabriel stated coldly. "My men raided the property three hours ago. Inside, we recovered the original forged death certificate for Claire Bennett, the suppressed Bennett lineage records, and five hundred million dollars in embezzled trust funds."

The surrounding council leaders gasped in collective fury, pulling their sidearms and pointing them directly at Arthur and Serena.

Serena burst into tears, backing away toward the wall. "Father! You told me Gabriel signed those papers! You told me Claire wanted to leave!"

Arthur glared bitterly at his daughter, then looked back at Gabriel. "You think you've won, Gabriel? The Geneva trust requires three physical signatures from the Bennett bloodline! Those five-year-old boys can't sign legal documents!"

Claire stepped forward, her voice ringing clear, steady, and commanding across the council hall.

"They don't need to sign anything, Arthur," Claire declared, pulling a heavy silver signet ring from her necklace chain—a ring her mother had passed down to her on her deathbed. "Because I am the living head of the Bennett estate. And as Gabriel’s lawful wife... I strip you of your title, your assets, and your life within this syndicate."
