Chapter 7

Charles Whitmore choked on a terrified gasp, his eyes bulging as the dark, violent reality of Dominic Vale’s world slammed into his pristine, high-society bubble. The physical strength of the mafia boss was overwhelming. Dominic held the fifty-eight-year-old man suspended effortlessly, the visible black tattoos on his neck flexing with corded muscle.
Charles nodded frantically, a pathetic, jerky motion.
Dominic released him with a look of utter disgust. Charles stumbled backward, collapsing against the base of the elegant staircase, his chest heaving under his white shirt and burgundy tie. Madison, Lauren, and Emily let out muffled cries of horror, shrinking against the wall, their glamorous red, champagne, and white gowns bunching up as they tried to make themselves as small as possible.
Dominic adjusted the cuffs of his open-collar black shirt, his breathing completely even, natural, and unrestrained. He turned back to Claire, the violence instantly vanishing from his demeanor, replaced by that same calm, chilling observation.
"Please," Dominic gestured smoothly toward a nearby marble console table where a glowing candle flickered beside a white-and-red floral arrangement. "Take your time reading the terms."
Claire walked over to the table. Her hands were no longer trembling. The adrenaline coursing through her veins was cold and clarifying. She smoothed out the legal document on the marble surface. The print was dense, detailing the immediate transfer of seventy percent of Whitmore Enterprises' debt to Vale Holdings, along with the immediate, irrevocable transfer of proxy voting rights to Claire Whitmore.
She read every line, her intelligent eyes scanning the clauses. It was a flawless, lethal corporate execution.
"You drafted this before you even arrived tonight," Claire observed softly, not looking up from the paper.
"I do not attend galas for the champagne, Claire," Dominic replied, stepping up close behind her. He didn't touch her, but his towering, muscular presence enveloped her in a dark, protective aura. "I came to acquire the most valuable asset in the room."
Claire paused at the final signature line. She looked at the gold nib of the fountain pen. For thirty years, she had been the dutiful daughter. She had accepted the narrative that she was only fit for 'household matters'. With a single stroke of ink, she would permanently destroy her father’s reign and bind herself to a mafia billionaire.
She thought of the years of late nights, the stress-induced migraines, the countless times Charles had taken her reports and presented them to the board as his own. She thought of her sisters, flaunting wealth they did not earn, looking down on her as a servant.
Claire pressed the pen to the paper. Her signature was elegant, sharp, and decisive.
She capped the pen and turned around, holding the document out to Dominic. "It's done."
Dominic took the paper, a slow, dangerous smile finally breaking the cold mask of his handsome face. He looked at the signature, then folded the document and slid it back into his jacket.

"Congratulations, Madam CEO," Dominic murmured softly.
From the floor by the stairs, Charles let out a broken, pathetic sob. "You’ve ruined us, Claire. You’ve handed our legacy to a monster."
