Chapter 15 - Victoria Counterattacks

Two months after the party, Victoria filed an affidavit in family court.

She alleged Daniel and I had formed:

“an alliance to strip her of motherhood after a private blended-family disagreement.”

Partly true?

We communicated constantly.

Because Sophie and Noah were involved.

She said I used:

“organized-crime reputation and private security resources to intimidate her.”

That needed scrutiny.

Had any security officer contacted her outside property retrieval?

No.

Had I threatened her?

No.

Had relatives?

One cousin sent her a message:

You should leave the country before Raffaele decides what to do with you.

I was furious.

Not because I wanted her protected emotionally.

Because that message was exactly the old reputation weaponized.

I called my cousin Marco.

“Never contact her again.”

“She hurt Noah.”

“You are not his father.”

“I was defending family.”

“No.”

He laughed.

I did not.

“Send an apology through counsel and stop.”

He did.

Victoria included the message in her affidavit.

Fair.

The judge asked whether I had authorized it.

Evidence:

No.

Still, my family culture created credible fear.

I issued an internal directive:

No family member or employee may contact Victoria about the case except through counsel or court-approved parenting channels.

Was that necessary?

Apparently.

She also produced footage of me knocking her hand away and removing the ring.

Context existed.

The court did not treat me as automatically safe because I was protective of Noah.

Good.

Sophie’s evaluator interviewed me.

“Have you ever hit Victoria?”

“No.”

“Threatened her?”

“No.”

“Destroyed property during anger?”

“Years ago, before Noah was born, I punched a wall during an argument with my brother.”

There.

Not proud.

No need to hide.

“Any criminal violence?”

“No.”

“Do you carry a firearm?”

“No.”

Security does.

Legal.

Stored.

She asked:

“Why does Victoria fear you?”

“Because my surname has history and I have used that fear socially instead of always correcting it.”

That answer surprised even me.

A reputation you benefit from can become a threat without explicit words.

May you like

I stopped pretending otherwise.
