Chapter 25 - Daniel’s House

By year two, Sophie lived mostly with Daniel during school weeks.

Not because Victoria failed permanently.

Because stability worked.

She saw Victoria regularly.

Their relationship improved.

Daniel had once believed more custody would solve his old regret.

Then learned:

More custody means more laundry.

More forgotten homework.

More teenage attitude approaching.

He called me one night.

“Sophie says I’m controlling.”

“Are you?”

“I told her no phone after ten.”

“Monster.”

“She says Mom lets her.”

“Ask Victoria.”

He did.

Victoria said:

“I do not.”

Sophie had lied.

Normal.

Daniel sounded almost delighted.

“She lied about a normal rule.”

“Congratulations.”

We had become pathetic.

Victoria and Daniel eventually coordinated better than during marriage.

They used a co-parenting app initially.

Then text.

No emotional arguments through Sophie.

No:

Tell Dad.

No:

Ask Mom why.

The school transfer Victoria had once tried to initiate?

It eventually happened.

Irony.

At eleven, Sophie herself asked to attend the school near Daniel because two friends from her sports program went there.

Victoria agreed.

Daniel agreed.

This time:

Discussion.

School tour.

Sophie’s input.

Signed forms.

Same outcome.

Different process.

That became one of the strongest examples for her.

A plan is not wrong only because of destination.

How people reach it matters.

When the transfer was approved, Sophie asked Victoria:

“Is this the paper from before?”

“No,” Victoria said.

“New one.”

“Why?”

“Because this time we all decided together.”

There.

Authority without manipulation.
