Chapter 10 - The Threshold of Sixteen

Three months passed over the Moretti estate, bringing a crisp, beautiful winter to Chicago.
Life at the mansion had settled into a peaceful, joyful rhythm. Anna had taken over full management of the family's legal operations, while Lily had her own playroom on the second floor, filled with art supplies and storybooks. Newborn Matteo was growing strong, his dark wavy hair and bright blue eyes already mirroring his father’s features.
On a quiet Tuesday afternoon, Rocco sat behind his mahogany desk in his private study, reviewing the annual logistics report.
Don Carmine’s private courier arrived at the door, delivering a sealed leather portfolio wrapped in thick ribbon.
Rocco took the portfolio, opening it with his silver letter opener.
Inside lay an ancient parchment document stamped with the official seal of the Midwest Syndicate Council—a master deed signed forty years ago by Rocco’s late father.
Rocco read the elegant calligraphy written across the yellowed paper:
To my son Rocco,
If you are reading this document, it means you have successfully defended our family against internal treason. The true secret of the Moretti bloodline does not lie in the shipping terminals or the Chicago territory.
Tucked inside the vault beneath the grand hall is a master key to the international banking reserve in Zurich—a trust fund worth two hundred million dollars created for the child who uncovers the truth of our bloodline.
This trust shall remain locked until Lily Bennett reaches the age of sixteen.
Rocco held the parchment for a long moment, feeling a profound sense of awe and destiny wash over him. Little Lily, the four-year-old girl who had walked out of a dark pantry holding his infant son, was destined to inherit the greatest secret in the Midwest.
He carefully folded the parchment, locking it inside his center desk drawer beside the silver signet ring he had taken from Julian.
Rocco stood up, adjusting his white dress shirt and putting on his black suit jacket.
He walked out of the study and down the grand marble staircase to the sunlit living room.
Anna was sitting on the sofa by the roaring fireplace, reading a storybook to Lily, while newborn Matteo rested comfortably in his bassinet beside them.
Lily looked up as Rocco entered, offering him a bright, happy smile. "Look, Mr. Rocco! I’m reading to Matteo!"
Rocco walked over, dropping to one knee beside the sofa, his broad hand gently patting Lily’s soft brown hair.
"You're doing a wonderful job, Lily," Rocco said with a genuine, warm smile.
Anna looked across at him, her brown eyes holding his with quiet, unbroken affection. "Is everything alright, Rocco?"
Rocco looked at his family—at Anna, at little Lily, and at his growing newborn son—feeling an absolute, unbroken peace in his heart.

"Everything is perfect, Anna," Rocco said softly, taking her hand in his broad palm. "Our home is safe. And our future is secured."
Outside the tall glass windows, the snow fell softly over the Chicago skyline, bathing the grand estate in a pristine, peaceful white, as the Moretti family stood together—unbroken, protected, and ready for whatever new chapters lay ahead.
