Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Oath

Three weeks later, the morning sun broke brightly over the Duca estate, casting a warm golden light across the restored marble hall.

The shattered glass had been replaced, the storm had passed, and the estate was filled with a sense of peace that had been missing for fifteen long years. Don Carmine Moretti’s entire syndicate had collapsed under federal indictments, his assets seized, his lieutenants arrested.

In the grand garden behind the mansion, five-year-old Sophia ran across the lush green grass, laughing happily as Bruno trotted gently beside her, letting the little girl pat his broad head.

Standing on the sunlit stone terrace overlooking the lawn was Elena. She was no longer wearing her black maid uniform. She wore an elegant cream silk dress, her long dark-brown hair falling softly over her shoulders. Around her neck, resting proudly against her skin, was the restored black-and-gold family pendant on a solid silver chain.

A heavy, familiar footstep sounded behind her.

Lorenzo walked out onto the terrace. He was impeccably dressed in a dark suit, his dark hair styled, his light stubble perfectly groomed. He stopped beside Elena, looking out over the garden at Sophia playing with the dog.

"She looks happy," Lorenzo said softly, his deep voice carrying a genuine warmth.

"She hasn't stopped smiling since the guards left," Elena replied, looking up at him with a soft, beautiful smile. "She loves Bruno."

Lorenzo turned to face her, taking her small, delicate hand into his own large, warm grip.

"You don't have to hide anymore, Elena," Lorenzo said, his intense dark eyes looking deeply into hers. "Your father's name has been cleared. Carmine will never touch you or Sophia again."

Elena looked down at their joined hands, feeling a deep, powerful emotion stirring inside her heart. "I don't know how to thank you, Lorenzo. You gave us our lives back."

"You don't need to thank me," Lorenzo whispered, stepping closer to her, his shadow wrapping around her with protective warmth. "This estate was built by our families together. As long as I breathe, this house is your home. You and Sophia are family now."

Elena looked up into his handsome, fierce face, feeling a profound spark of connection and safety that she hadn't felt in fifteen years.

Suddenly, Marco stepped out onto the terrace, holding a sealed black leather portfolio bearing an official silver seal.

"Boss," Marco said, his tone unusually serious. "A private courier just dropped this off at the main gate. It was sent directly from an offshore trust in Switzerland."

Lorenzo took the portfolio, opening the leather flap. Inside was an old, hand-written letter dated fifteen years ago, signed by Lorenzo’s late father, Don Vito Duca, along with a secondary DNA report.

Lorenzo scanned the document, his dark eyes widening in shock.

The letter revealed that before his death, Don Vito had established a private global trust fund in Switzerland—not for Lorenzo, but for his granddaughter, born to Elena fifteen years ago during her quiet disappearance.

Lorenzo looked up from the paper, his gaze shifting slowly toward five-year-old Sophia playing in the garden.

The document in his hand proved that Sophia was not just an innocent child saved from the streets—she was the biological daughter of Lorenzo’s late older brother, making her the true, legitimate heiress to the entire Duca empire.

Lorenzo looked at Elena, who stared at him in confusion, unaware of the massive secret resting in his hands.

A slow, fierce smile touched Lorenzo’s lips as he folded the document, slipping it safely into his jacket pocket.

"What is it, Lorenzo?" Elena asked softly.

May you like

Lorenzo looked into her eyes, reaching out to gently touch her cheek. "It’s nothing, Elena. Just the beginning of our new legacy."

He looked back toward the garden where his niece was playing, knowing that while one war had ended, protecting the true heiress of the Duca family was a fight that had only just begun.
