Chapter 7 - The Traitor's Echo

Inside the steel vault, Lorenzo walked over to the central security terminal and inserted the micro-chip into an encrypted card reader.
The high-definition monitors on the wall flickered to life.
An audio-visual file dated October 14, 2011, began to play. The black-and-white security footage showed the original Duca study fifteen years earlier.
Don Vito Duca sat behind his desk, surrounded by his senior captains. Standing by the door was a younger Don Carmine Moretti, wearing an expensive suit, holding a leather briefcase.
The speakers in the vault filled with clear, crisp audio.
"You're making a mistake, Vito," Carmine’s voice echoed from the past, smooth and deceptive. "The Commission wants the shipping docks. If you don't sell your shares to me tonight, I will ensure your family doesn't see tomorrow's sunrise."
"I will never sell my family's legacy to a snake like you, Carmine," Don Vito’s strong voice replied.
The video showed Carmine taking a step back, pulling an encrypted phone from his pocket, and speaking into the receiver: "Execute protocol zero. Kill everyone in the house, including the children. Leave no survivors."
Elena covered her face with her hands, sobbing quietly as the horrific footage confirmed the nightmare she had carried in her heart for fifteen years.
Lorenzo stood frozen before the screen. His hands tightened into fists so hard his knuckles turned white, his intense dark eyes burning with a terrifying, unholy fury. Every lie Carmine Moretti had told him over the last decade, every fake word of comfort, every fake hug at his father's funeral—it was all built on the blood of his family.
Marco stepped up beside Lorenzo, his jaw tight. "Boss... Carmine is currently at his private estate in Long Island. He thinks his strike team is going to finish the job tonight."
Lorenzo slowly turned away from the screen, his voice dropping into a register that made even Marco feel a chill in his spine.
"Carmine sent his men here to destroy the evidence," Lorenzo said quietly. "He doesn't know we've already decoded it."

He looked at Elena, walking over to where she sat beside her daughter. Lorenzo knelt in front of her, reaching out to gently touch her hand.
"You spent fifteen years running from a ghost, Elena," Lorenzo said softly, his voice full of a deep, fierce promise. "Tonight, the ghost dies."
