Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Heir of Duca Manor

By six o'clock the following morning, the storm over the Boston coast had passed, leaving behind a brilliant, sunlit dawn that bathed the Duca estate in golden light.

The grand study was quiet, warm, and filled with the scent of fresh coffee and blooming garden flowers.

Lorenzo Duca sat behind his massive mahogany desk. He wore a fresh light-brown suit, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, his dark blue-gray eyes clear, steady, and filled with quiet triumph.

Sitting in the leather armchair opposite his desk was Mrs. Harper. She had discarded her black maid uniform forever, wearing an elegant dark emerald dress provided by the estate stylist. Her fair rosy skin was radiant, her brown hair styled softly, her presence dignified and beautiful.

And sitting right on top of Lorenzo's massive oak desk, swinging her small white shoes playfully, was four-year-old Emma. She wore a brand-new pale pink dress with a satin bow, happily feeding Pino a dog biscuit while the massive Doberman rested his head gently on her lap.

Lorenzo reached into his desk drawer, pulling out a thick, leather-bound document stamped with the official seal of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He set it flat on the desk before Mrs. Harper.

"This is the official deed transfer, Mrs. Harper," Lorenzo announced softly, his deep voice filled with absolute authority. "Fifty percent of the Duca commercial shipping foundation is now legally registered under your family name. You are no longer staff in this house. You are the co-sovereign of this estate."

Mrs. Harper looked down at the gold-embossed document, tears of deep, overwhelming gratitude brimming in her dark eyes. She looked at the man who had fought through lies and conspiracy to restore her birthright.

"Lorenzo..." Mrs. Harper whispered softly, using his first name for the first time. "Thank you."

Lorenzo looked at her, a warm, genuine smile touching his rugged face. "This house was built on a partnership, Mrs. Harper. It's time it felt like one again."

Emma set her biscuit down, looking up at Lorenzo with her wide, observant brown eyes.

"Mr. Lorenzo?" she asked softly.

Lorenzo leaned forward, his expression softening completely. "Yes, Emma?"

"Can Pino sleep in my room tonight?"

Lorenzo let out a deep, booming laugh that filled the grand study with warmth and light. He reached out his broad hand, gently stroking her soft hair. "Pino belongs to you now, Emma. He goes wherever you go."

Pino let out a soft, happy huff, thumping his heavy tail against the mahogany floor.

Suddenly, the private satellite phone sitting on Lorenzo's desk began to chime with a sharp, encrypted ringtone from an untraceable server in London.

Lorenzo set his coffee cup down, picking up the device. He pressed the receiver to his ear.

A smooth, unfamiliar voice spoke through the speaker, carrying a heavy European accent:

"Mr. Duca... congratulations on securing Boston and restoring the Harper bloodline. But the international council in London has just received news that your late father's secondary vault in Geneva contains a third document regarding the Atlantic shipping routes... and the European directors are demanding an immediate summit."

Lorenzo’s dark eyes narrowed into razor-sharp focus. He did not flinch. He did not show fear. He slowly looked over at Mrs. Harper and little Emma, his broad posture returning to that of an invincible, unyielding warlord ready to guard his family into eternity.

"Tell London," Lorenzo said quietly, his voice sharp as steel, "that if they want to speak to the Duca family... they can come to Boston."

He disconnected the call, set the phone down, and wrapped his arm around the desk as the golden morning sun bathed the grand study in warmth, safety, and triumphant light.
