Chapter 8

The subterranean boardroom descended into a suffocating, terrifying stillness.
The six surrounding capos looked at the yellowed letter lying on the table, then turned their sharp, suspicious eyes toward Victor Vance.
Victor Vance’s polite smile instantly froze. The color drained from his weathered face, leaving his skin a sickly, pale shade of grey under the bright recessed lighting. His hands began to tremble against the gold head of his walking cane.
"Dominick... what is this?" Vance stammered, his voice rising in panicked pitch. "Your mother died in a tragic structural accident thirty-one years ago! We all mourned her! I helped your father rebuild the west wing—"
"Read the letter, Victor," Dominick commanded, his deep baritone cutting through the room like a cold steel blade.
Vance’s trembling fingers reached out, picking up the dry, brittle parchment. As his eyes scanned his own sister's handwriting—the confession detailing his treason, his secret offshore accounts, and his sabotage of the west wing's support pillars—his entire body began to shake uncontrollably.
"It's a forgery!" Vance shrieked hysterically, dropping the paper back onto the table as he looked around at the other capos for support. "It's a lie created by our enemies to fracture this council! Dominick, I raised you after your father passed! I have been loyal to the Marchetti name for forty years!"
Dominick took two slow, heavy steps down the side of the conference table, his polished black shoes striking the floor with authoritative thunder.
"My chief security team ran a full forensic audit on the letter two hours ago, Victor," Dominick revealed, his dark eyes fixed on the traitor with absolute, merciless judgment. "The ink, the paper, and the fingerprint traces match my mother's personal vault files perfectly. And thirty minutes ago, our financial team uncovered the original offshore accounts mentioned in this letter—accounts registered in your name that have been active for three decades."
The surrounding capos stood up from their leather chairs, their faces hardening into masks of dark, unforgiving anger as they realized their senior advisor had murdered their former don's wife and lied to them for thirty-one years.
Vance collapsed back into his armchair, his gold cane clattering against the floor, tears of pathetic panic welling in his eyes. "Dominick... please... I was young... your father was taking everything... I didn't mean for her to be in the wing that night—"
"Silence," Dominick growled, his sharp jawline setting like iron.
Dominick looked at Dominic Russo, who stood near the steel security doors with four armed guards.
"Strip Victor Vance of all syndicate assets, titles, and territories," Dominick ordered flatly. "Hand him over to the federal task force's anonymous drop unit along with his complete offshore financial records. Let him spend the remainder of his natural life in a maximum-security federal prison, stripped of his name, his wealth, and his freedom."
"No! Dominick! Please!" Vance wept hysterically as two broad-shouldered guards dragged him away from the table, his pathetic screams fading down the corridor as the heavy steel doors sealed shut.

Dominick stood at the head of the table, looking at the remaining capos.
"The Marchetti family is clean now," Dominick declared firmly. "Our empire is built on truth."
