Chapter 7 - A Mother's Vow

Three weeks later, the Caruso estate was completely transformed.

The dreary, suspicious atmosphere that had hung over the property for years was gone, replaced by bright sunlight, warm autumn air, and the joyful sound of a child’s laughter echoing through the corridors.

In the grand garden behind the mansion, six-year-old Emma ran across the lush lawn, her dark braids bouncing as she played fetch with a young German Shepherd puppy that Vincent had gifted her.

Sitting on a sunlit stone terrace overlooking the lawn was Rachel. She wore a beautiful cream wool dress, her pale face rosy and full of health, her dark eyes sparkling with a peace she had never known in her life.

Walking out onto the terrace was Vincent Caruso. He wore a relaxed black suit without a tie, his dark wavy hair neatly styled, his light stubble perfectly groomed. In his hands, he carried two cups of hot coffee.

He sat beside Rachel, handing her a cup, and gently set his hand over hers on the stone table.

"How are you feeling today, Rachel?" Vincent asked softly, his piercing blue eyes filled with deep warmth.

"I still wake up thinking I have to put on my apron and hurry down to the kitchen," Rachel smiled, taking a slow sip of her coffee. "It feels like a dream, Vincent."

"It isn't a dream, my niece," Vincent promised gently. "You and Emma are home. You will never have to work for anyone again."

He pulled a small velvet box from his suit pocket and set it on the table before her.

Rachel opened the box. Resting inside was an official legal deed transferring full co-ownership of the Caruso estate and its global logistics enterprises into her name, along with an irrevocable trust fund established for Emma's future.

Rachel looked at the document, tears of profound gratitude welling in her eyes. "Vincent... I don't know how to thank you."

"You don't need to thank me, Rachel," Vincent whispered, leaning in to kiss her forehead with deep paternal affection. "You brought my sister's memory back to this house. You gave me a family again."

Emma came running up the terrace steps, holding the German Shepherd puppy in her arms, her shiny Mary Jane shoes clicking against the stone.

"Look, Uncle Vincent! Bruno learned how to sit!" Emma cheered proudly.

Vincent laughed, leaning down to scoop both Emma and the puppy into his massive arms, pulling his grandniece into a warm, affectionate hug. "You're a master trainer, Emma."

Emma giggled, wrapping her small arms around his neck, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her left ear with her index finger.

Vincent looked at the familiar gesture, a deep, beautiful warmth filling his heart.
