Chapter 9 - Unraveling the Threads

By the end of the month, the entire underground landscape of New York had shifted.

With Richard Vale in federal custody and the Commission recognizing Rachel’s rightful lineage, the Caruso organization experienced an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity.

Rachel spent her mornings working alongside Marco, learning the management of the family's legitimate real estate holdings, proving herself to be an extraordinarily intelligent and capable business administrator.

Emma attended the prestigious St. Jude’s Academy in Manhattan, arriving every afternoon in a private car escorted by Marco’s security team.

One rainy afternoon, Vincent sat in his private study, looking through old family photograph albums with Rachel and Emma.

Emma pointed at an old black-and-white picture of Vincent as a young man standing beside his sister Sofia on the terrace of the original estate.

"Look, Mommy! Uncle Vincent used to have short hair!" Emma giggled.

Vincent let out a warm laugh, stroking his thick beard. "That was forty years ago, little one."

Rachel smiled, leaning her head against Vincent’s broad shoulder. "Thank you for giving us a real life, Vincent. We finally feel safe."

Vincent put his arm around her, kissing her dark hair. "You gave me back my heart, Rachel. This house was an empty tomb until you and Emma walked through that door."

Suddenly, Marco walked into the study, holding a heavy black leather envelope bearing an official international wax seal from Europe.

"Sorry to disturb you, Boss," Marco said, his tone unusually serious. "This was just delivered to the front gate by a diplomatic courier from London."

Vincent’s smile faded slightly. He accepted the heavy leather envelope, breaking the dark wax seal, and pulled out a single sheet of aged parchment paper.
